IRON MOUNTAIN -- The warmth of sun and old friends shone between bouts of work and good-natured ribbing during the sixth annual Izzo-Mariucci Classic on Friday.
Stopping occasionally to answer questions from the media, 1972 Iron Mountain High School graduates Tom Izzo, Michigan State's basketball coach, and Steve Mariucci, first-year head coach of the Detroit Lions, raised money for charitable causes during the golf outing at TimberStone Golf Course.
As Izzo discussed his upcoming stint as head coach of the United States basketball team at the Pan American Games, best friend Mariucci jabbed him with: "Win one game, please."
Warming to the needle, Izzo responded, "Right after you win the Super Bowl."...
