He's playing very well & might be one of the best backs in the league, please pay him accordingly.

Signed,

A normal Bills fan.

fred is pretty much the man on this team

I disagree.....he is still signed for 2 more seasons. Fitz and SJ are UFAs......we need to use 2011 cap space to resign them...THEN, we can give Freddy an extension using 2012 cap dollars

Why the rush to spend money the team doesn't have to spend.

Freddie signed his current deal and while he's outplaying it he's not going anywhere and can be extended in the off-season.

Yeah, so that $28 Million we're under needs to stay banked in Detroit.

We know. I know you haven't been around long, Mitch, but we've had threads on this after every game.

Some of that needs to be available for bonuses tied to Spiller's contract. I believe it was up to $6 million. McKelvin may also have a bonus up to $3 million. That's $9 million the Bills need to keep available. I also said that we use that cap space on Fitzpatrick and S. Johnson before they become UFA and force use of the franchise tag.

However, latest numbers were the Bills $22.1 million under not $28 million

Isn't the rule you don't give out big money to a guy over 30? Jackson is signed through next year. Sometimes you lose on contracts, sometimes you win. I don't see a need to give him anything right now.

FJ doesn't have the wear of a normal 30 YO player, so I think N/A on the above theory.

Why doesn't playing indoor ball and Europe count?

That's more like college than NFL, so no it doesn't really count. If you also do the math, you're looking at ~1,600 yards rushing / ~900 Receiving this season. With those types of numbers, the Bills would have to pay much more next year than they would right now. It makes more sense to give him a good size signing bonus this year & extend him 3 years, for a total of 4 remaining. It can be done for much less & is a good gamble on the future.

You don't have to show me the numbers, or how about showing me the numbers of guys that you pay a lot of money and they bust. Jackson signed the contract, plain and simple.

It's not all about wear and tear, after 30 the legs (and mind) just don't move quite as fast. Not that he'll be washed up but he isn't going to get a 5 year deal.
