Has anyone heard any bad news about one of our former leaders and one of the best all time Bills (in my book anyway)? I read on another board that he passed away.......has anyone else heard or read this? I hesitate to ask in case the information is incorrect....wanted someone to possibly verify.

Thanks

Former Mississippi State football great Kent Hull died today, according to MSU athletics director Scott Stricklin. He was 51 years old.

Hull, a Pontotoc native who grew up in Greenwood, lettered for the Bulldogs from 1979-82, anchoring the offensive line at the center position for three years. His first start actually came as a 215-pound freshman, and he was a part of the team that upset No. 1 Alabama, 6-3, in 1980 in Jackson. The Bulldogs went 9-3 that season, losing to Nebraska in the Sun Bowl.

Met him in 1992, while I was working part time in a cd store.

Sold him Lynyrd Skynyrd's Gold and Platinum Collection.

One of the greatest Bills to ever put on the red white and blue.

This truly sucks...My son and I talked to him briefly boarding a plane from Buffalo a couple years ago. He was in Buffalo for the dedication to the 50 anniversary team. He was sitting in first class and we were waiting for the line to move so we could get to our seats. He saw my son in Bills clothes and smiled to him. I told Kent how it was his first Bills game and I took him up to the game for his 10th birthday. He reached out his hand and shook my son's hand and said "happy birthday little buddy" and asked him if he enjoyed the game. My son was such a big fan of him after that. Very classy guy.
He will be deeply missed. He was the brains behind that offensive line.

Wow. One of my favorite Bills of all time. Died at 51. That's scary, since I'm going to turn 56 on October 20. It's really weird when you hear of people near your age or a bit younger dying like that.

I think I'm going to buy a throwback #67 jersey to wear for all future bills games...

RIP, Kent. You were the BEST.

I remember one game on a VERY cold Buffalo afternoon where he thought that Jimbo was underneath center (but was in the shotgun) and Kent hiked the ball up like he was under center instead of in the shotgun. His excuse? My butt was numb...

"We have suffered a tremendous loss. Kent was a teammate, big brother and best friend. My heart breaks for His amazing family. My heart breaks period. He will be a best friend and in my heart forever." Thurman Thomas

"Words fall short when the pain runs so deep. I'm finding it hard to describe what this loss means to me and my family. Kent Hull was my best friend. ... He will be missed and never forgotten." Jim Kelly

"I'm so, deeply saddened. I coached for 47 years, and he honestly was one of the very most memorable individuals who was my privilege to coach. ... He was an enjoyable man to be around. He made life so pleasant for his teammates, or who ever he was with. He represented everything that sports should be." Marv Levy

Should the BILLS pay respect and Honor him with a patch or helmet sticker for the remainder of this season ? I'm sort of undecided on this, while there is no doubt that he was one of the great Buffalo BILLS, is it something that should be reserved for Owners, HOF'ers, etc. ?

I saw a guy at the opener wearing his jersey, and I thought to myself....If there's one alumni I would buy that I don't already have, it would be Hull.

He was the lynchpin that ran that great offensive line we had back in the glory days.

I was having a good week until hearing this.

From RW jr.:

I am so very saddened to hear of the passing of Kent Hull.

Kent was a terrific player for us, who was often overshadowed by some of the bigger names we had in our Super Bowl years.* But Kent was one of the key components of our team and of our high-powered offenses in the 90’s that enjoyed so much success.*

But he was so much more than just a good player on a good team. He was a great leader on and off the field and respected by everyone who knew him. He was a true gentleman who was as nice as anyone you’d ever want to meet and as tough as any player I’ve ever known. If you were lucky enough to have Kent as a friend, you had a cherished friend for life.

This is a sad day for me and all of us in the Bills organization as well as all of our fans. I will miss Kent very much, but will always remember fondly the great man and great player that he was.

I want to offer my deepest sympathies to his wife Kay and his entire family in this most difficult time.

No, gastrol intentinal bleeding. It said on the news that he was battling liver problems as well. Sounds like he was possibly an alcoholic. Either way it's still a very tragic loss for the Bills community. He was a great guy and helped a ton of sick children.

Totally agree! If we don't get players on both sides of the line to play like they used to back then we don't ever play in another Super Bowl again. Sad but true.

Sal Moriana said that Hull lived life hard. That he went out with Jim & the boys & stayed out late after games & in the offseason, he also owned a cattle ranch which he worked in the off season.

It would not surprise me if Hull used alcohol to self medicate & deaden the pain he had. I did myself for years when younger & still have about 4 beers a day before going to bed to deaden the pain & help me sleep. I prefer that to the strong pain meds I could take if I chose to do so.
