Here are two indisputable facts about the National Hockey League: Some form
of realignment will occur for the 2012-13 season, and someone is bound to be
pissed off about it.

That "someone" is currently the Pittsburgh Penguins (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/pit/). Under the four-division realignment proposal (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/NHL-realignment-could-result-in-four-divisions-?urn=nhl-wp16144)
discussed by CBC's Elliotte Friedman last Saturday night, the Penguins would be
separated from their Atlantic Division — and old Patrick Division — rivals,
including Keystone State mates the

Philadelphia Flyers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/phi/).

The Penguins would instead compete against
the

Toronto Maple Leafs (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/tor/), Montreal Canadiens (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/mon/), Boston Bruins (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/bos/), Ottawa Senators (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/ott/), Buffalo Sabres (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/buf/) and either the Detroit Red Wings (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/det/) or Columbus Blue Jackets (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/cob/) (though the latter seems more
likely).

Getting Detroit & Pittsburgh in our division would change things quite a bit. They wouldn't be getting easy games, besides all the canadian trash teams we deal with now.

It will never happen...but I would like to see the Rags in our division battle of N.Y.S.

You're more concerned about the Penguins than the Red Wings?

Wouldn't any realignment be contingent on what happens with Phoenix? What happens if they move to Quebec? Wouldn't that exclude Detroit and Columbus from the East.

Why not put all 15 teams into a "conference"? Four games against each = 64 games. One game against each team in the other conference. Total season is 79 games.

How in the world would it "never" happen? It is a proposal, it could happen.

finally the sabres have an owner who is intent on winning a championship and the NHL drops the toughest possible division on our heads. That makes sense.

the rumors have been the NHL wants to put ALL original 6 teams in the East, so that means Det and Chi are likely to change that means columbus stays west, and TB is likely to go west as well

Are you really implying that Detroit would be more of a problem? You might want to rethink that............

Yea.

A team that made the playoffs every year for over 2 decades.

Not worried about having that in our division and in our schedule.

if you don't think so I can only surmise that it's because you really don't have a clue.....................

Says the guy who brings up past guys like Stevie Y and Shanahan in reply to the team making the playoffs every year for 20 years.

Have you seen their team lately? Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Datsyuk are just as good, if not a few of the best in the league, to deny or overlook that would be stupid.

Did I say Pittsburgh would be harmless? No.

I'm saying that Detroit has its points of concern too, especially from a divisional standings perspective.
