I just searched for "Buffalo Bills kicker" because I missed the news on who they signed to fill in for Lindell.

The first result: The Wikipedia entry for "wide right."

Now I'm in a bad mood.

Why not go the Bills team site or look in the main forum here?

I do my best not to let missed field goals from 20 years ago ruin my mood today... just a general practice.

Yeah, not Google's fault. It's not a mind reader, it searches what you type in. You need to relax man.

Yeah well here's the problem: the missed kick from 20 years ago trumps the news from 2 days ago. That is Google's fault.

Google search results are not in chronological order. It's based on the number of search requests. Obviously wide right is more epic and historically significant (relatively speaking) than the Dave Rayner signing.

Not understanding how this works is your fault.

I understand how it works.

I don't understand why more recent information doesn't trump more "historically significant" information.

If someone searches, "US President," chances are they are looking for stuff about the current president. Obama should come up first, despite the fact that Abraham Lincoln and George Washington are more "historically significant."

There is absolutely nothing fun about constant reminders of my team's epic failures 20 years after they happened.

To be fair, what is the bigger story: Wide right or the Bills signing Dave Rayner for a month?

If someone searches "US President" then yes, they would be looking for historical information on the history of US Presidents. If they wanted current news they'd search Barack Obama. If they don't know who our current president is, then I'm surprised they found out how to use Google in the first place.

Understood. I get it, but we're going down a rabbit hole here.

It doesn't matter if Google returns "Wide Right" as the first search result for any search no matter what it is, or if it just responded to my search that way.

The point is that I just hate getting reminded of my team's epic failures decades after they happened.

I think the other point is that there were easier and more efficient ways for you to find out who the new kicker is without going to google.
