Austin E. Knowlton, an original shareholder of the Bengals and member of the team's board of directors since its inception, died Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was 93 years old.
Knowlton, who at one point served as chairman of the Bengals' board of directors for two decades, also had ties to the Reds as a shareholder of that club during the 1970s.
"He was a significant owner of the Bengals and a man who was involved in several key decisions from the inception of the franchise," Bengals president Mike Brown said in a statement.
