Efforts are under way to rename Washington Street between Perry and Scott
streets “Jim Kelley Way,” in honor of the late Buffalo News sportswriter and
columnist.
One of Kelley’s two daughters, Megan Kelley, said the idea came up in
September, when the family was trying to think of a way to mark Kelley’s Oct. 26
birthday.
“I think it was more of a family thought. We all wanted to do something in
his memory to show his legacy and his commitment to the area, because he grew up
in South Buffalo and went to Canisius College,” Megan Kelley said Sunday
night.
“We were thinking about what could we do so people don’t forget him and [so
they] remember what he did for the profession and the community.”
Kelley died last Nov. 30, at age 61, after a battle with pancreatic
cancer
