    Edwards feeling the heat

It's become increasing clear that the Buffalo Bills' defense was classic overachievers during the first quarter of the season. Now that the midterm grades are out, the marks -- as well as the unsightly blemishes -- are nearly as hideous as in 2010.

The Bills currently rank 29th in the league in total defense, worse than last season when they finished 23rd overall. Opponents are averaging 24.2 points a game -- 23rd in the league -- which has the team scrapping for a postseason berth when just three weeks ago they appeared to be cruising.

There is plenty of blame to go around and George Edwards, in his second season as the team's defensive coordinator, has not found a way to stop the bleeding on a consistent basis.

George Edwards should be no better than an NFL towel boy.

The Bills do not have the players to run a 3-4. No starting quality true NT, DE's who developed playing 4-3 DT, no starting quality OLB's, weak man-man CB's and rookies starting who are not ready.
I'm not sure what we should expect to see.

Unfortunately, as we've seen the past several years, they don't have the players to run the 4-3, either. They just don't have the talent, period, and unless they can stockpile about 20 draft picks and some major free agents, they won't get any better.
