Buffalo Bills need improvement on defense

If there were one thing every Bills fan could reasonably assume heading into the 2011 season, it's that there was no way Buffalo's defense could be as bad as it was in 2010.

Mind you, that wasn't much of a leap when you consider last year's defense was one of the worst in franchise history. Remember, that was a unit that ranked last against the run as it gave up the second-most rushing yards in team annals, made only 11 interceptions, had a mere 27 sacks, and allowed opposing quarterbacks to compile a cumulative passer rating of 92.8.

Of course the Bills would be better this year, right? Especially with newcomers like rookie Marcell Dareus plugged into the defensive line, Shawne Merriman rushing off the edge, and NickBarnett making tackles all over the field.

Through nine games they are better, but not by much, and if Buffalo doesn't get its defensive deficiencies fixed fast, its already-fading playoff hopes will drift into oblivion.

That thread title is the understatement of the decade.
Anonymity is an abused privilege, abused most by people who mistake vitriol for wisdom and cynicism for wit
