Re: Pay or Nay for Stevie
Stevie is not a true #1 WR and he's not clutch. But he is the best WR on the team.
Here's the problem: if we let him go, then WR goes from a position that needs an upgrade to a huge hole. If we re-sign him, there is no way in hell Ralph will also pay for a true #1.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

come on man. imagine our team's offense WITHOUT its best WR, and make no mistake about it, stevie is FAR AND AWAY our best player. Im not saying pay him top WR money but give the man a paycheck he deserves.

Re: Pay or Nay for Stevie
At this point the Bills need to pay any player that positively contributes to the team. They are not deep enough or apparantly astute enough to cast off talented players with the hope of finding new and better ones.
Thisa has been the Bill's philosophy for too long. If we let him go then we are almost forced to spend a #1 on Michael Floyd or his like. I love floyd, I am a huge ND fan and would love him here, but why spend a #1 on a WR when we have a proven one in the fold.
Decisions to cut a guy like Stevie are, imho, only good decisions when you have an abundance of talent at a position. We simply do not have that right now at any position.

Re: Pay or Nay for Stevie
not paying him is the reason the bills suck. regardelss of how good you think he is, if and when injuries happen, you need a stable of decent players.
sign him and build the WR unit.
let him go and you are starting over. and you are starting over in a lot of positions. There are only 7 rounds and not a lot of free agents to get.

Re: Pay or Nay for Stevie
I get the feeling Stevie would rather play closer to his home in San Fran, especially if he doesn't believe the Bills are really getting better.

Re: Pay or Nay for Stevie
Stevie has gone against some of the best CBs in the league and won that battle. If that's not a #1 WR, I don't know what is. He may not be clutch in the high pressure situations... yet... but he would be the best WR on a lot of teams. This isn't Peerless Price we're talking about here.
As for judging his performance based on YPC, that is heavily dictated by the type of offense we run. He will always be a lower YPC guy as long as Fitz is his QB.

There's little evidence that the BUF FO has any special insight into what constitutes a decent wide-out, in recent years. Johnson was a lucky #7 pick that worked out fairly well - shades of Jason Peters, and they were fortunate that he wasn't picked up by another club when they axed him in year 1 and were able to grab him back.Last edited by stuckincincy; 12-14-2011, 01:36 PM.Fiat justitia ruat caelum.
