The San Diego Chargers are not likely to give wide receiver Vincent Jackson the franchise tag if they are unable to sign him, according to the U-T San Diego.

Jackson, 28, had the franchise tag placed on him by the Chargers last offseason, resulting in a one-year contract worth around $11 million. If the team decides to place the franchise tag on Jackson for the 2012 season, it would cost around $13 million. Sources told the newspaper that the team probably would not devote that much money to a single receiver for a one-year deal.

Nix had a part in drafting him in San Diego.

One can dream...

If not resigning Stevie means we get to sign Vince then I'm all for it.

He's a big - 6'5," 230 lb - strong guy who has averaged 17.5 YPC during his career. He'd be a great #1 to Stevie's #2.

Ralph and Littman just need to spend about $17M per season for the two.

Because of this:

No way Ralph shells out that much for one position.

I would love for us to lock Stevie up, then sign Jackson as well.

Not gonna happen though.

He forgot "blockers, passers, pass rushers, tacklers, and coverers"

Very few teams have two of those, many don't even have one. With Stevie and Jackson on the same side, defenses would have to pick their poison and suffer the consequences.

It's a nice fantasy, but there's no way we get both...

Matter of fact I bet we won't even keep Johnson at this point.

can probably nab Garcon, and get all 3 for about $25MM/year

Wouldn't need to. Jackson - Johnson - Nelson would be a lot of size and solid speed at the position. Probably could be the best "go up and get it" trio in the league. All 3 can rip balls down in coverage.

NOT THE DUDE...

could be we like easley lots and nix might want to trade off on johnson for jackson...

who knows...

Easley isn't even part of the conversation until he can at least make it through a training camp without any health issues or injuries.

I would be very comfortable with a WR crew of Stevie/V.Jackson/Nelson/Roosevelt/Aiken or Easley/(Smith) (5 or 6). Unfortunately for us, we'll probably let Stevie walk and not pursue Jackson and we'll end up with Hagan/Smith/Parrish/Nelson/Roosevelt/Aiken or Easley.

Jackson is going nowhere...AJ and Norv are going all in this season because they have more lives than cats...and they are down to their final one

To be honest I don't want him on the Bills or Chargers...he is a borderline locker room cancer who gives up on plays way too easily. (see the Thursday night Oakland game)
