All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
Colts owner Jim Irsay flew to Florida on Friday and while there discussed the team's head-coaching vacancy with former Ohio State Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel for a second time, according to reports.
On Friday morning, Irsay flew to Sarasota, Fla., where Tressel owns a home, according to the Indianapolis Star, and according to WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, a second interview was conducted.
"Second interview" is usually a good indicator that the interviewee is a good candidate to land the job. Dunno if this is a good fit, though.
Irsay is a cheap bastard. He should be ponying up the big bucks for Cowher, Gruden, Billick etc.
Those coaches would likely want more control than Irsay would be willing to give. That was one of the main rifts between him and the Polians.
A lot of Colts fans (at least in Indiana) root for Ohio State or Notre Dame in College Football. People in Indiana are also very fickle and fair-weather and as a result, more and more have moved away from ND and towards OSU in recent years. So, having the vest as a HC could also work well towards appeasing the fan base, without having to give up control.
I wouldn't call Irsay "cheap," per se. He'd spend more money if it meant he would be able to keep more control and/or power in return. He's also very manipulative, as the word "relocate" was a common one used when he was lookign to get Lucas Oil Stadium built to replace the Hoosier Dome. Given his previous history in Baltimore, he had his new stadium deal done relatively quickly.
I was being sarcastic for the sake of all of the 'Ralph is cheap' dumbasses, and Jim was barely wet behind the ears when his dad Robert moved the Colts in the middle of the night.

Fair enough. But trust me, in the Irsay's case, the apple certainly didn't fall far from the tree. Jimmy would sell his grandmother's false teeth if he thought he could turn a significant profit from it. He will spend, but only if he gets to do things his way.
Given the whole "cleaning house" that's going on in Indy, my guess is, Jimmy was a little upset that the Polians (Bill mostly) was getting pretty much all of the credit for the Colts' success. This is Irsay's way of saying "We can win without the Polians," though they never really have won much before Bill Polian got there.
