QB mechanics a focus with Lee

Bills news quarterbacks coach David Lee, a former college QB himself, is a stickler for quarterback mechanics. He knows their importance with accuracy in a passing attack and in studying Buffalo’s QBs on tape will recommend any adjustments he sees fit for his trio of signal callers.

“Accuracy is the number one critical factor at the quarterback position,” Lee told Buffalobills.com. ”It does come down to your fundamentals. It’s like a golf swing. If you have poor fundamentals you could hit 1,500 balls and can’t be more accurate and keep the ball in the fairway. At the same time at the quarterback position if a guy’s fundamentals are good and he has a systematic approach to how he wants his mechanics to be when he throws the ball. What’s happening between his upper body and lower body at the same time. Getting those two in sync increases accuracy and velocity.”

Even though a player like Ryan Fitzpatrick will be entering his eighth season in the NFL next fall, Lee said a quarterback is never too experienced to make an adjustment for the better in his throwing mechanics.

Im surprised no one has commented on this. This may actually be pretty huge for us because it seems like Fitz has some of the worst mechanics ive ever seen. He throws the ball to much with his waist and arm. He does not use his feet to throw which causes alot of the accuracy issues and arm strength problems. Setting your feet is very easily taught and could go a long way for Fitz.

A level ball that consistently thrown a similiar way will almost always get cuaght by a NFL Wide-Reciever, the variance is ball placement & the angle of rotation at the time of delivery.

He should just cut Fitz then, he has terrible mechanics and no chance to correct what he does either.

You didn't watch any Broncos games this year, did you?

But, back on point: what Lee is really saying is "I have to lower Fitz's release point so the ball doesn't sail over 10 yards over the receiver's head to the waiting arms of a free safety every damn time."

Now, now, Henne did allow us to get plenty of FGs.
