Roy will only have one year left on his deal at the end of the season. That means he can then sign an extension.

What could be scarier than Darcy resigning Gaustad, Roy and Boyes?

id be okay with resigning Gaustad.. please let Boyes go, and trade Roy in the off season

there is no trading Roy. NO ONE is going to take that contract, not even for one year.

the ONLY hope is trading him at the deadline next year to some contender with an injury, and even that's unlikely because anyone who's a contender likely won't have the cap space to absorb that ****ty contract.

4mil/yr for a 1st/2nd line center is ****ty contract? I don't think that is why we can't get rid of him. Most likely Darcy's price is too high...

how does 4 million cap hit mean "****ty contract"?

64 games played, 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points and -11.

$4 million is STEEP for that kind of production.

Roy is NOT a legit 1st/2nd line C. Arguably 2nd on a bad team.

The Sabres attempt to use him as a 1st line C and the results speak for themselves.

So, because he is having the worst year of his career he isn't worth it? Most people would look at his career .82 points per game average before this year and probably have a different view.

I agree that he isn't a first line center and I admittedly don't like him, but he isn't THAT bad of a player either and the money he makes isn't that bad either compared to what he SHOULD be producing.

why do you keep talking like roy's contract is some huge albatross? one year for 4m for a legit 1st/2nd line center isn't bad on any planet.

there's no long term commitment and it's market value. his next contract he'll probably get a raise.

having a down year doesn't make him untradeable.

No one except Darcy pays players for what they SHOULD be producing.

You do understand stuff like this just makes you look silly right? No one does? Really?

With each passing day it is more evident that you get WAY too caught up in your teams and really don't pay enough attention to the whole league your favorite team is apart of.

I am just glad we don't have Gomez on our team. If you were a Habs fan you might have LITERALLY gone insane.

And see, here's the problem: other teams making mistakes isn't an excuse for the Sabres (or the Bills) to make the same mistakes.

Roy will have a Career/Contract year next year, then let him go be someone else's problem in July,.

yeah well his play on the ice doesn't match his numbers, and even when he was putting up numbers he was inconsistent. The only time he was consistent was at the start of 10-11 before he got hurt.

You could probably get away with him as a 2nd line C, but definitely not 1st line and he doesn't bring any fire or leadership.

But all teams make mistakes. SO you just have to deal with it and don't let it cloud good judgement.

GM's everywhere will look at the bigger picture (career statistical averages) and with a younger player, tend to believe that in "their system" they can meet and exceed those numbers

ummm actually he's been consistent every year except this one, with three straight 70 point seasons (one 81)

just because you don't like him doesn't mean he isn't any good. he's worn his welcome out here imo, but he still has good value.

So, the guy that everyone on this website (including you) trashes every night has good value?

Regier's tendency to overvalue his guys is clearly rubbing off on the fans.

Vanek is a good player, but he is hated by some on here.
Miller is a good player but he is hated by some on here.

Just because somebody is not liked doesn't automatically make them a poor player.

His career of solid production way outweighs his current struggles. He'd be a fine asset to any team. A change of scenery would do wonders for him and restore him to his role as a legit producer and all-around fine player.

the guy that averages .79 points per game and is a +35 on their career

or the guy who averages .78 ppg and is -8 on their career
