Robinson I know I saw was in negotiations with somebody, Lloyd everybody assumes is a Pats lock.

Chargers lost Vincent Jackson. There Meachem has a legit shot at being the number 1 receiver which potentially could land him a bigger pay day down the road. So, it isn't surprising that he would end up signing with them. What doesn't make sense to me is why he would even bother to come to Buffalo and waste the Bills time. If that's the kind of person he is, the Bills are probably better off without him. JMO

meachem with a typical ghetto move...
Dude, let it go.

Looking at it from Meachem's POV, this is a great move for him. He's going to an offense that tends to throw the ball deep quite a bit (his strength) with a good QB. He'll be the #1 WR there and got a contract on the high end of reasonable considering his production (I'd say 5 mil/yr for Meachem would be better from a team's standpoint).

And no, these are not excuses. Honestly, I was hoping for Meachem and it stinks losing him, even though I'm not a fan of free agent WR's.

It's business and the reality is if he turned down that chance he might not have seen a chance like that again. As this contract is likely going to be his "BIG" contract as the next one he'll be over 30 and who knows what. As mentioned the Chargers were in dire need for a WR so if Meachem gives them the cold shoulder they might go elsewhere. I don't blame Meachem at all. I'm sure the Bills knew he had other suitors heck it was wildly reported by ESPN that the Chargers and Rams were interested too. So Kudos on former Bills staffer AJ Smith teaching his student (Nix) the art of the deal is in the money not in the dinner.

Agreed. I mean, atleast leave the city before you call and make deals. What was he doing at dinner? Texting his agent and the Chargers? Got dropped off at his hotel so he decides to agree to a deal with SD? It's classless and ghetto.

He used us. Plain and simple. He knew we were desperate and went to dinner, saw what kinda deal we were offering, then texted his agent to see if anyone would beat it.

I wonder if Buddy Nix even knows this, or is he sleeping... ? Looks awful for our organization.

The Bills probably let him know that they weren't going to give him the same deal they just gave their own top receiver, who's done roughly in the past two years what Meachem has done in his career. And then San Diego did.

Oh, yeah Meachem putting up 1,000 yard seasons. How could we let someone go so easily when he has played up to the talent of our #1. Also, his 17 TD's in the past 2 years sure surpass.. oh wait no that's Stevie.

We need a #2, and on a team where Drew Brees is breaking records, who cares he went overpriced to SD?

I think you guys are forgetting this business not personal. Meachem coming here showed he was interested but its his agents job to keep all other lines of communications open.

What likely occured is that SD called while they were in Buffalo and said we'll offer Robert this, they probably asked Buffalo if they were close or willing to match, Buffalo said no and they took the offer.

Why in God's name would you wait when there is that much money on the line? It sucks but there are other options at this point. In the next 24-48 hours though those options will become less and less appealing.

No team is going to pay their #2 WR more then their #1 WR

San Diego offered Meachem the #1 WR job with #1 money. Meachem made the decision that was best for him.

The Bills were waiting for him at 4pm no other team had a chance to talk to him

THRILLHO
03-14-2012, 07:53 AM
Visiting a team is all part of the process. Players use teams to drive up the price, it happens. And besides, for all you know he might have actually wanted to play here.

I don't blame Meachem. Be a #2 WR with Fitzpatrick throwing you the ball, or be a #1 WR with Phillip Rivers throwing you the ball AND get paid more.

Which would you choose?

Weren't we told money wouldn't be a problem?

Does that mean they're supposed to give anyone any contract they want? It would have been stupid and outrageous to give Meachem the money he got from SD. Absolutely the right call to not match that.

did anyone watch that video that bb.com made public yesterday? There was a entourage of people following MW to Tempo. Then a few minutes later Meachem is sitting shot gun with a driver and one guy greets him at the door. his face looked like, "this is a big day for me too, why am i second fiddle?"

Plus the dude is supposedly a burner and chan likes the WR over the middle and more nuianced. i don't know meachem's game. but if he came otu of dinner thinking, "it'll be cold here, fitz doesn't have great numbers and the contract numbers lag, and they don't really seem excited about me they way they want MW" it's obvious why he'd take more calls.

and he gets a call from SD with better weather and a QB who likes to sling it around, it makes sense why he'd go there.

but that video really showed that meachem wasn't very enthused with what was going on.

Swing and a miss!

Damnit, I wanted Meachem BADLY. He was my number 1 potential player in free agency (after Mario, Wimbley and V. Jax, who I didn't think we'd have a realistic shot at).

Now we get to overpay for Manningham because he had one good catch in the Superbowl. Awesome.
