Shawne Merriman in any of the interviews.

Interesting or not?

The only reason Merriman is still on the Bills is he has $3M of his $4M base salary guaranteed.

Even with that, it isn't certain he will be kept. He has a $1M roster bonus due Monday, and another $250K he can earn in workout bonus this offseason. The Bills have to ask, do they want to eat more money or cut their losses.

I think the Bills will keep Merriman rather than eat the $3M in salary, but if they don't feel they can count on him they could cut him tomorrow and save $2.25M. Monday at the latest. They could approach him about a paycut and cut him if he says no.

If he is on the team Monday at 4 PM they are definitely keeping him, because he will get a big fat check.

I don't think $3 mil is much of a gamble. I'd keep him.

Takeo cames back from a torn achilles. Merriman didn't tear his, so I see no reason why he can't at least get back to average linebacker play. We have had UFL linebackers for the past 4 years.

pornstachio has already hinted strongly they will use merriman as a designated rush specialist. a little pricey to pay a specialty player but would still be a bargain if they can get lights out on just pass plays. so i think they are willing to take that gamble one more season

Merriman is actually decent on run plays too. Kelsay is worse at the run, but there are worse pass rushers than him at DE. It's looking less and less like DE at 10. I wish there was a 4-3 OLB stud in this draft..

Merriman was surprising stout against the run last season. It was his strength in 2011.
