Not that I am expecting much but if Merriman could get on the field next year what position are we looking at?

Any word on his recovery?

As long as Tila keeps her hands off him, he's good.

This guy better be ripped and ready come training camp. Buddy took a chance on him, rewarded him twice and he has given next to nothing back.

It's not for lack of effort.

I disagree, Nix made reference yesterday on Sirius to Merriman begging Nix not to pick him off waivers because he could not stand the thought of coming to Buffalo. I think his injury two plays into his first practice was a very orchestrated event designed to get himself off the field.

If Merriman is healthy he'll be an asset for us...

and I disagree he has given us great effort when he did play.. He might not have recorded a sack, but he set the edge well and our D was better when he was playing

If merriman recovers and is 80% of what he was our d line would be ridiculous

He definitely contained against the run well. And while he wasn't a sack machine, he did his part. I felt he was also held alot...I don't know what it is that refs seem to look the other way sometimes when our people are being held. Seems to happen quite often!!!

pornstachio pretty much said they will use merriman as a pass rush specialist. a little expensive for that role but if he can produce and stay on the field it will be worth it. that means this is likely his last chance to stick here, if he gets injured with a limited workload hes history

weather we cut him or keep him his salary (the last of the contract) is fully guaranteed. we won't pay him to sit or go play for someone else. He'll be on the team this year. now beyond this year is up to his play. if he is healthy our nickle and passing situation pass rush will be insane!!!

Merriman did alot. Gave our D energy, I think it also gave our young players the feeling of, Merriman is playing right next to me, wow. As much as hes sucked lately, Merriman still carrys that name and still has the look that makes u feel like hes still a beast.

And he was a beast when he was healthy. He had a bad achilles tendon for two years & finally had surgery on it this year after being placed on IR by the Bills. Reports are the surgery went well. I would not be surprised to see him healthy next year.

Merriman & Williams on the edges, Dareus & Williams in the middle, WATCH OUT Brady.

That would make sense if he were a DE but he is not, he is an OLB.

He is an OLB in a 3-4 no chance he plays olb in a 4-3 he will put his hand on the ground and be a situational rusher DE like he was last year in our 4 man fronts

merriman is worth the risk in all aspects.. he still has borderline pro bowl edge rush abiltiy when healthy, we saw that last year...

im excited about him!

Saw him say on Twitter that he hasn't felt better in at least 3 years. I've heard that before, but I'd like to give him the opportunity to prove it as opposed to cutting him just to save 1M.

He also played DE at Maryland as well as his stand up role as in the NFL. And with Mario manning LE and Williams/Dareus in the middle, having a guy who can (if even at 80%) provide that rush around edge, you have a guy who gets sacks.

mine is

kelsay/merriman/curry

:thurm2: We will know his future with Buffalo by Monday where it is said the Bills will decide whether or not to pay his 1 million dollar bonus. He claims he is finally healthy for the first time in years. Here is the interesting part. Being only 27 years old, if healthy he will start opposite of Williams on the D-line. That means Kelsay is most likely going to be shopped. Whether the Bills find a team willing to trade for him is unknown. But they will not pay Kelsay to be a backup unless he agrees to rework his contract. That's just my opinion.

I'm sure many of us see him as a longshot, with his repeated breakdowns.

Still, it can't hurt to rehab him and see what he has, come summer. If he could be that designated rusher in obvious passing situations, then he's helping in a major way.

Because of the way they've managed the cap, I honestly don't see any major cuts coming until camp, especially on the defensive line. Coach Wannstedt would want to sign off on any of them and make sure his lines are set...He likes them like hockey lines so the rush is relentless, so I figure a guy like Merriman, especially if they can baby him back to training camp is worth a million dollars, as is retaining a vet like Kelsay.

Yeah, the Bills have been very smart about the cap & the best part is that Marios contract will be very reasonable throughout the length, the greatest hit is this year when the Bills had a lot of money to spend. I read the Bills still are $12.9 Mill under the cap this year.

Yep I am willing to give him one more shot, with the hope that the surgery he had was what he needed to get back on the right track. As many mentioned I noticed a downturn in our Defense when he went out for the year.:thurm2:

I feel like many on this board are so fast to want to cut guys. Why not let things play out a bit. It isn't our money. We aren't in cap jail at this time.

I think his injury two plays into his first practice was a very orchestrated event designed to get himself off the field.Merriman's missgivings about coming to Buffalo are ancient history. Merriman has talked about how he was reluctant to come to Buffalo because of the general perception around the league, but said that after he came here he began to appreciate the fans and everything about the team. At least verbally he's been a big booster of the Bills. Unless he's lying through his teeth, I think he likes Buffalo and really wants to help the Bills turn things around.

It would be a big mistake to cut him now IMO. They've come this far with him and if he is actually healthy with the guys around him he could be a huge play maker. I focused on him early last season and he was usually doubled and then when he was about to break free: VIOLENTLY HELD at least 10 times.....

Sorry, but did I miss where someone in the FO said that Kelsey would be starting? I'm pretty sure I heard Buddy saying that they would evaluate everyone and go from there but I don't think even they know who is gonna be manning the other end opposite Mario.
