NEW YORK -- Glen Sather has given himself another chance to make good on an unfulfilled promise.

The general manager of the New York Rangers vowed to lead the team back into the playoffs when he also assumed the coaching duties late last season. But he failed to accomplish that, so the four-time Stanley Cup champion is giving himself another chance to get the job done.

Sather's coaching search took him back to himself Tuesday, when he announced he would keep both jobs next season.

"I don't think it was that tough,'' the 59-year-old Sather said of the decision. "Once you get back into it, you sort of get into the rhythm of what's happening.

"I thought I might keep going but I didn't want to close the doors on some of the other people.''

Sather Stinks. He rode on the back of the Early 80's Edmonton drafts and hasn't done a thing since.
