Bills proposed replay change, other rule changes

The competition committee is considering changes for the upcoming season. The Bills have proposed that the replay official in the booth makes all decisions on instant replay. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

Other changes being considered is tightening up the rules on hitting the QB. There is talk of adopting John Madden's suggestion of not being able to hit the QB after the ball is released. It would work like the roughing the kicker rule, once the ball is gone, you can't hit the QB.

Another change is possibly adopting the college rule for too-many-men penalty.

What a joke. The NFL might as well just outfit the QBs with tutus and get it over with.

It's about time replays are decided in the booth. A ref on the sideline shouldn't be making these decisions.

Also like the proposed changed to IR, think the current system is antiquated. Should have two separate categories, one for long term and one for players who will miss 6 weeks or so but are likely to come back.

That QB rule will increase penalties. If your going full speed at a QB and you hit him a tenth of a second after he throws the ball zebras are gonna throw the flag.

im trying to be rational here, but how do you not hit the qb, you are running full speed at him and you cant stop in 1 second. literally 1 second. this is impossible...

shouldnt there atleast be discretion on whats an over the top hit on the qb....

i know this might be harsh, but the qb getting drilled in a fair way is fun. its what makes football, well football...

There are other rule change proposals I was going to list, but work got in the way.

The Steelers proposed the playoff overtime rules apply in the regular season.

They are thinking of moving the trading deadline back 2 weeks.

They might expand the defenseless player rules to include defensive players.

Heck, just check out this LINK.

                Qb rule would be awful.

I like the idea to expand the rosters to 90 in the offseason.

Thank god. that would have been a huge mistake for the league.

Actually it was adopted by the NFL but it only applies to Tom Brady and nobody else.

I think such a rule already exists. Isn't it called the "2 step" rule or some such?

Adding an injured reserve exemption so that if a player was on the roster through the first regular season weekend, that player can be placed on injured reserve and designated for return, and then can return to practice six weeks later and play in a game eight weeks later, rather than having all players on injured reserve out for the season.

Like this one, similar to how they used to do it.

Really wish they'd rally around modifying the pass interference rule.
