On the other hand things like health care etc are much cheaper. If I need to go to the doctor I pay about 15 dollars for that. And I pay a maximum of 150 dollars per year, after that health care is free (with certain exceptions). If I'm sick and need to stay home the State pays 80% of my salary from day 2. Daycare is taken care of by the state and is based upon how much money you make, with a maximum of 225-250 dollars a month. Parental leave is 480 days split between both parents. You get paid 80% of your salary during your parental leave. I did spend about 3 months home with both my kids. I got by law 5 weeks of paid vacation each year.

Living in Sweden is cold in the winter and warm in the summer. We are on the same latitude as Anchorage Alaska. But thanks to Gulf stream we don't get nearly as cold and snowy winters. Overall it's a pleasant country to be living in. A bit expensive but you get a lot of benefits from the state.

Our climate in the US can vary vastly, from Alaska weather to S. Florida weather. Our average day / night temp here in SW FL is about 78 degrees (thanks to the gulf stream as well, LOL), so basically it's pretty warm. We do no have ay insurance here that is Government mandated to replace pay but there are welfare programs (Insurance assistance / money / housing) at all different levels just for the asking, so it has it's similiarities. If employed under a larger business includng the government, there is a chance of maternity leave for the mother & not the father. The level of care depends on location as well, down here there is some of the best burn / care clinics in the US but they can be several hundred mils apart (Tampa FL burn unit / very serious injury being a prime example).

Taxes here vary vastly among earners & how you earn, so the percentages change. One our presidential candidates paid 14.1% in taxes on a huge amount of money, after many deductions & charitable giving. I'd say between Federal / State / local automatic taxes (Petro / Gas taxes built in) we all pay about 30% in taxes on average. We get a lot of that, plus more here in New York State, but you have to be a foreigner, have 3 kids or more and have never worked a day in your life, if you fit those qualifications, then everything is free.
