    Mayock on Quinton Coples

This is just one man's opinion, so take it for what it's worth. I just thought this was interesting. Here is what Mike Mayock recently said regarding Quinton Coples:

NFL Network's Mike Mayock indicated on Path to the Draft that he wouldn't pick North Carolina DE Quinton Coples regardless of round if Mayock were general manager of an NFL team.

Mayock concedes that Coples oozes talent, but wouldn't be on his draft board. "If I'm a GM, I'm not taking him in the first round," said Mayock. "I might not take him in the second round. The bust potential is high." Mayock went on to explain that he couldn't find "any" strong senior-year tape from Coples. While we still expect Coples to be a top 10-12 pick, he certainly seems to present risk

The question must be how many guys has Maycock said can't miss and have missed by miles.

Anyone would think that Coples had mediocre production in college or flunked at the Senior Bowl, Combine or his Pro Day.

Coples a bust? If he drops lower than No12, he'll be a steal

He will definitely slip a bit but he won't make it out of the first round.

Id take him at 10 all day long. He is the perfect fit for our defense.

I have nothing but respect for Mayock but I think he's way off on this one.

          Re: Mayock on Quinton Coples

I remember leading up to the Senior Bowl on NFLN Mayock was talking about Coples and said "I was trying to scout this guy... and I couldn't find any tape from his senior year that would make him a first, second, or even a third round guy. He had a much more productive Junior Year than senior year. (Something about) a lot of these North Carolina guys' level of play has dropped off and it might have something to do with the turmoil the program is in."

I totally agree based on my limited sample size. I watched two UNC games this year and Coples was nothing special at all. Does he have the body type to be special? Yes. But he doesn't have special production on the field.

Well, we do agree on some things. I agree with everything you said in this post. I would love Coples at #10.

Match the DE to the 2011 production!

              Andre Branch (ACC)
              Quinton Coples (ACC)
              Frank Alexander (Big 12)
              Vinny Curry (CUSA)
              Nick Perry (Pac-12
              Tim Fugger (SEC)
              Jake Bequette (SEC)

              Code:
              Sacks	TFL	FF
              9.5	13	2
              10.5	17	0
              7.5	15.5	4
              11	21.5	6
              10	10.5	5
              7	13.5	3
              8.5	19	3

Doesn't have elite burst which is why I took him off my top 10. Big man but strong NFL OTs will be able to handle his bull rush and his speed is not a concern.

Two maybe three DE's in this whole draft have elite burst, not every DE needs that and since we are out of the 43 the need to have that elite burst is even less.

I'd pick him. Worth the gamble. And with the right players around him he would be motivated I think.

Aaron Maybin called. He said the Bills would rue the day if they pass on Coples at 10.

just backs up the mentality that better value players can be had later on, and the DE's at the top of the board are only marginally better over then the next group
