I think Hightower would be a good fit for them,
a LB who can hit hard and play right away

Lions unlikely to draft troubled Janoris Jenkins, report says

A rash of troubling drug-related arrests will likely impact the Detroit Lions' plans on draft day.

The Detroit Free Press, citing an unnamed team source, reports it's unlikely the team will consider Janoris Jenkins with the No. 23 pick, despite a critical need at cornerback.

The North Alabama prospect is widely considered among the most-talented players in the draft. Jenkins also brings a litany of red flags, including two arrests for marijuana possession.

The Lions reportedly are wary of more character concerns following the recent marijuana-related arrests of last year's top pick Nick Fairley, second-round pick Mikel Leshoure and seventh-rounder Johnny Culbreath.

The Free Press said chances are slim that Lions general manager Martin Mayhew will gamble on Jenkins, who was dismissed from the University of Florida football team in April, 2011.

The Lions are looking for a long-term replace for Eric Wright at cornerback. Wright recently signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Alabama’s Dre Kirkpatrick and South Carolina’s Stephon Gilmore are thought to be on the Lions' radar if they decide to select a cornerback in the first round.

Mike Adams, they have to beef up the OL. Hightower is tempting but they have more need at OL.
