I think the dollars are fixed, its the amount guaranteed and option years that are still negotiable.

I heard on the radio the other day that it may be better to be a high 2nd rnd pick than a late 1st rnd pick.

You lose a few hundred thousand dollars on the first contract, but you sign the 2nd contract a year sooner as a 2nd rnd pick.
