Buffalo Bill 2012 Draft Review

1.Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina-A three year starter in the SEC since a true freshman is an impressive thing to say about any college player but its more impressive when its at a skill position like CB. Gilmore physically has every thing you look for in a shut down CB Excellent speed, good build, length, and good but not great quickness. He like a lot of young CB’s has some issues with double moves and his hands leave a little something to be desired. He is also a willing tackler and run supporter that needs to sharpen his tech in that area. The willing part is more than half the battle however with CB’s these days. One thing I do like about Gilmore is he has taken from his QB back round and applied to the CB position and that is he is a film room junkie. He is just a quite kid who will spend hours on film looking for little tells that can help him get an advantage on the field. He’s not a real vocal kid but I’m fine with that, he is much more of a walk rather than talk type player. I liked the pick I think he has tremendous upside potential and think he should push for a starter spot and playing time immediately

PFWR Bills Draft Review - Grade B+

In machine like fashion, the Bills worked the draft to address each of their primary needs. In most cases, with not only one pick but two picks of value at those need positions. Only one prospect could be considered a reach, TJ Graham, but I actually like the value there. The only position that the Bills looked to address in the draft that they did not, was a developmental QB, and that was addressed with the Undrafted Free Agency signing of Richmond QB Aaron Corp. While this draft went a long way to provide much needed competition and depth in all areas of weakness, it likely failed to find a true blue chip play making difference maker. Gilmore will step right in and contribute but is not the caliber of other of the leagues elite corners. Cordy Glen was a steal in round two and could end up eventually as the Bills starting Left Tackle. However, he probably only has pro-bowl potential if he plays inside at guard. The Bills found a couple of mid-round intense and hard hitting players that will compete for playing time at linebacker, but who's greatest contributions will come on special teams. The bottom line is the Bills roster is the most complete and deep it has been in over a decade and that should not be overlooked when considering the value of this draft as a whole.
