Bucs sign paralyzed UDFA Eric LeGrand

[Updated at 11:58 a.m. ET] Eric LeGrand's football coach at Rutgers helped him emotionally in the months after his on-field paralysis. Now the coach is symbolically helping him realize his dream of making it to the NFL.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, now coached by ex-Rutgers coach Greg Schiano, announced Wednesday they've signed the former defensive tackle who was partially paralyzed in a 2010 game to their 90-man off-season roster.
For those that may not know Schiano was LeGrand's coach when he became paralyzed on the field that day. What a wonderful gesture.

Thanks for that. Schiano is a class guy.

Certainly a classy move. Hopefully they can find some sort of job for him on the Bucs staff... now that would be a really great move.

He's more likely to make the final 53 on that team versus Thigpen.

I totally agree with this second part. Unless they're actually finding him a job where he can contribute and make a living, then it's just a media stunt IMO. If he's not going to have a future in football, then let him get on with his life. I'm sure he spends enough time wondering "what might have been."

They move is strictly honorary. LeGrand is working towards graduation and wants to work in sports broadcasting. His story is inspirational and I advise anybody on Twitter to follow him as he goes through his journey.

His tweets about him simply taking a step can turn any bad day around.

I have a strong dislike for Schiano, due to the experiences that my cousin had as a player there. For instance, Schiano once grabbed him by the throat while getting in his face on national TV.

But this is a nice move, no two ways about it.
Wake up, brush your teeth, and get ready for a day of hating the Dolphins. Or the Pats? How to choose?

Why was your cousin getting in his coach's face on national tv? That is a rude thing to do.

Love Greg Schiano. Class act, role model, and a coach who always gets his players to give him nothing short of 100%...I would love to see him succeed in the NFL.
The last time the Bills made the playoffs was 1999.

Other way around. My cousin made a mistake and the camera zoomed in on schiano yelling at him on the sideline, then grabbing him by the throat. Just one example. His players at Rutgers feared him, but didn't respect him.
