Deal for Bills' Fred Jackson on the horizon?

When reached over the weekend for an answer to the question, "Has there been any progress between you and the Bills," Jackson's agent Ron Raccuia responded quickly and succinctly:

"Check back with me in a couple of days."

In my experiences with various agents, the less that is said and the less you hear is usually indicative that something strong is brewing. Raccuia's lack of comment could be perceived as a hint that a deal between the Bills and Jackson is very, very close.

Or, he could just be protecting the negotiations between the team and his client -- which is also common for sensitive manners like this one. It's certainly open for interpretation.

It's no sure thing at this point in time based on a brief exchange and a few words from Raccuia, but just from my perspective and past dealings with people around the league, I wouldn't be surprised if a new deal for Jackson is announced sooner rather than later.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of deal the sides agree to. I'm guessing there will be less than $10 million in guaranteed money.

probably a 3 year deal is ideal. he should be paid!

This would complete a nice offseason once we extend Fred.

Jairus Byrd and Andy Levitre will both be free agents next year. Since we didn't draft a Safety this year, I assume we plan to extend Byrd.

But, based on how we drafted -- I wouldn't be surprised if Levitre is let go or franchise tagged. I would hate to see him leave, but the market for Guards is ridiculous. Carl Nicks just got $31 million guarenteed from Tampa Bay... With Eric Wood due for a contract the following year, are we gonna tie that much money to the interior O-Line? Let's see.

                  I'd do 3 years, 20M with 8-10 guaranteed.

If Levitre thinks he's worth that much, let him walk. There isn't a guard in the world worth blowing a wad on, and they sure as hell aren't going to be the difference between winning a championship or not.

I rather sign Levitre than the always injured Wood.

With us not against the salary cap and it constantly going up, I can't imagine we don't pay any of them. As long as they continue to play well. That was one of Nix's things to develop and retain talent.
