    Going to the SB

From a Historical Perspective going to the Super Bowl is not a big accomplishment. In fact, only 4 teams have never been to a Super Bowl! And what about the teams that have gone? Out of all of the teams that have gone, only 10 have never own a Super Bowl, which means that there 18 different teams that have won a SB! Further, the number of teams that have won a SB is higher (18 winners) than the teams that have never won an SB (14) which includes teams that have never gone (4).

So if its not about going or winning a SB, then what it about? Becoming a Dynasty. The Top 5 SB winning teams have won more combined SB, 24 in total, than the bottom 27 teams combined -which won 22. When history looks over the greatness teams, winning a SB is not really that special -after all 18 teams have done this- rather its about winning multiple SB. Its about becoming a Dynasty.

In a way the 1990's Bills 4 Consecutive Losses are More Improbably and speak of a greater team than 1 SB win would have. Those 90's Bills teams, had they won only 1SB and appeared to 1SB, would have been more easily forgotten in NFL History but since they lost so many back to back SBs they are still remembered today. If there ever was a Dynasty of losers, those Bills teams would take the cake. In a way its better to be the best looser ever, than a mediocre winner... one of many...

i dont consider those bills teams losers... i put them up there with the ny islanders as one of the most resilient teams in sports history. for christs sake, if there was no wide right we are talking one of the greatest runs if not the greatest run in sports history.

they went to 5 afc championship games in 6 years. hell almost 6 in 8 years.

you are talking about a team with possibly 7 or 8 hof players...

      losers, really?

Am I missing the point here OP, or is this to reminds us how pitiful we are, and when and If we ever do win a Superbowl its really not that much of an accomplishment.

I mean because seriously, being crowned king of the losers is not what we're looking for here.

No what I was saying is that Going to 4 Straight SB is more of an accomplishment than winning one. I guess, I communicated this poorly....

I couldn't disagree more. I really hope that management doesn't have that same mentality.

I'd trade the last 3 SB appearances for a victory in the first SB without a second thought.

I honestly remember how much the first one hurt and how numb I was for the next three, despite the comeback game. I agree wholeheartedly!

The way fa is now its not really makes it that much harder to create a dynasty.. I don't think you can down play making or winning a super bowl... It's a big deal... Why the jets or raiders did 20 years ago has nothin to do with what teams do now...you play the season to win the super bowl. Only 1 team a year does that. It's a big deal.

Your logic fails right at the start then you want to play it down. The fact that most teams get to superbowls means nothing. It's about the PLAYERS or the specific combination of players that gets to superbowls not FRANCHISES. It's about rings on fingers not appearances.

                        You know what's really special?

Missing the playoffs every year since the millennium.

Only one team has managed the feat.

We would all prefer that. Winning is what its about. That being said, being a SB winner from a historical POV is not some great accomplishment. The majority of teams have done it at least once. In a way, going to 4 Straight SB is a more unique accomplishment than winning 1, because no one else has done that.

Which do I prefer, of course winning 1.

Your talking about qualitative difference. All of that is entirely subjective. It holds meaning for you the fan in some special meaningful way. From that perspective, a SB can be very meaningful, because you are placing that meaning there. From a quantitative, numerical, point of view, winning SB is not a big accomplishment. This is shown by the numbers. The majority of teams have won a SB.

To give you a metaphor, its like having kinds. Having kids is not special because most people have kids, however your kids are special because they are yours. There are 7 Billion People on the planet, so people are not rare and these 7Billion poeple hold no meaning to you, however the people in your life are special and hold meaning even though peopel are not rare.
