    Vilma suing Goodell

The lawsuit, Vilma v. Goodell, was filed in United States District Court in New Orleans. It says, “Goodell, speaking publicly about certain Saints executives, coaches and players, in relation to purported efforts designed to injure players, made public statements concerning Vilma which were false, defamatory and injurious to Vilma’s professional and personal reputation.”

Vilma is seeking an unspecified amount of compensatory and punitive damages for Goodell’s “willful and wanton misconduct.”

Good. I think Goodell is a terrible commissioner. I want Paulie T back.

I kind of like it. Goodell will have to show his hand.

I'm interested to see the evidence Goodell used to ban everyone.

              Indeed.

His absolute power is being challenged. Seemed Vilma was singled out as some sort of ring leader and he better have hard evidence.

                    Re: Vilma suing Goodell

Goodell was given the power by a vote from the players union. It was a collectively bargained agreement.

If Goodell has any evidence his ruling should stand.

                      This sets an awful precedence.

The next time a player gets fined or suspended for a "drity hit" or "misconduct" or "failed drug test" is going to sue the league for defamation.

                      Great.

There's a HUGE difference. I'd assume Vilma wouldn't pursue a case here if he was as much at fault as Goodell is suggesting. But a player getting suspended for a dirty hit, there's evidence, everyone sees it...as of right now there's no proof out there publicly as to why Vilma got a year and Fujita 3 games. Why the huge disparity?

If there's no smoking gun, do you honestly think Goodell would suspend a player for a whole year based on "gut feel"? Vilma knows what he did and did not do, and he's bluffing Goodell I think.

The problem is there is a growing suspicion that the NFL doesnt quite have the proof to backup the charges against these players.

Goodell is a wonderful dictator however ill take Paul T anyday.
