Predicting One Surprise Starter for Every NFL Team
Buffalo Bills Projected Surprise Starter: tackle Chris Hairston
It was widely assumed that when the Buffalo Bills invested the No. 41 overall draft pick in the 2012 NFL Draft on Georgia tackle Cordy Glenn, that Glenn would be a projected starter for the Bills in 2012.
That may or may not happen. When the Bills began their first session of OTA's on Tuesday this week, it was Glenn and Hairston that lined up as the starting tackles. According to this update from Chris Brown of Buffalo Bills.com, starting right tackle Erik Pears is absent from OTA's due to recovering from offseason hernia surgery. The return date for Pears is up in the air.
Hairston is 6'6" tall and weighs 330 pounds. In his rookie campaign, Hairston played in 13 games and started in seven of them. While Pears is out, Hairston finally gets his first offseason work in to be fully coached and prove that he belongs in the starting lineup.
There is also the prospect that Glenn proves that he isn't ready to start yet and needs more seasoning. It could be at right tackle or at left tackle, but there is a reasonable chance that Hairston will be starting in 2012.
