Vince Young claims millions of his money missing

Football star and Houston native Vince Young sued his former agent and former financial adviser late Monday, claiming the men have misappropriated millions since the quarterback was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2006.

The suit accuses Young's former agent, Houston attorney Major Adams II, as well as financial adviser Ronnie T. Peoples and his Raleigh, N.C.-based company, Peoples Financial Service, of fraud, unjust enrichment, conversion, breach of fiduciary duty, usury and breach of contract among other allegations.

Adams and Peoples were in charge of the athlete's financial affairs during his five seasons with the Titans, for which he signed a contract worth at least $54 million. According to the lawsuit, Young has been left "in the unenviable position of losing no less than approximately $5.5 million while his assets were under [Peoples Financial Service]'s control." Nearly $13 million more in "counter-withdrawals," "debit memos" and checks are "untraceable" in Young's accounts with the company.

He should have taken half his swag and put it into a conservative trust fund managed by one of those numerous merchants-of-death Swiss banks.

Maybe he invested it all in towls.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
        It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

This actually has little to do with Young's intelligence or perceived lack therof and more to do with Agents/Financial Advisors that are swindling clients.

The dumber you are the easier it is to swindle you. If I had millions I would have advisors but I would be able to verify they were doing the right thing. I'd be able to keep an eye on my money without making that a distraction to football. And there's no need to get too complicated with investing. Pick a few well rated no load mutual funds, enough to have decent diversification and leave it there and you'll do as well as most "financial advisors".

That's pretty much so. But it's axiomatic that the best suckers are those with the biggest egos. Not worth mentioning any of them; everybody in every town can relate stories about the self-important big swinging dicks, the take-charge businessmen, pro athletes, the pols that wipe feet off on others - that got taken to the cleaners. Or to prison.
