WR Donald Jones (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1684563/donald-jones) appears to be the favorite to land the No. 2 job based on comments form coach Chan Gailey this week. Jones had mixed results as the No. 2 WR last year, but said that he gets motivated by public criticism. "Any time you hear things like that it fuels you," Jones said. "I never let anything that anybody says come between me helping this team ... so what everybody says in the outside media doesn't really matter."

WR Donald Jones (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1684563/donald-jones) lined up primarily on the outside opposite Stevie Johnson last year. But Jones said he's spent more time at OTAs in the slot than in previous years -- which could have a ripple effect at the position. "Right now, I'm rotating through three different positions," Jones said. "I like to move around. I like to be able to know every position. The more you can do, the more effective you are."

It's only OTA's. I wouldn't put anything into what Gailey says currently.

yup...Jones being the favorite to win the job is horrible news, but to be fair it's early.

Jones was catch one, drop one last year. Let camp solve the issue of players over pretenders.

He may be the #2 receiver to start the camp but that's about it. He's go to prove that he can get in and out of his routes and hold onto the ball.

Jones was given the opportunity last year and did pretty much nothing in what was, for the first half of the year, a pretty high-octane offense. Every WR on the roster did more than Jones arguably.

Which is why this whole discussion is moot. It's a spread offense. Whoever has the second-best production will be the "No. 2"

when all else fails, fall back on the old Billszone mantra of using the exception to prove the rule.

There are a LOT more WR's that have the dropsies and can't run routes who turn into dismal failures than ones who turn into success stories.

We desperately need a true #2 WR, and we aren't getting it this year.

I think this is a non issue now, but if none of the other receivers can beat him out for the #2 job by the time the regular season starts it would be concerning. Maybe that is because Jones is lights out in preseason but I find that unlikely based on what we have seen from him to date.

Im not saying he is a true number 2. But he did have some great catches and some clutch catches last year in the raiders game. If he can get his case of the drops done he will be a good one.

Other receivers who don't "beat him out" will be on the field most of the time anyway.

It's like wondering who will get the second-most votes in a school board election when there are four seats to fill.

or we can go by the fact that most WR's take 2-3 years to fully develop in the NFL and this is Jones' 3rd year.

or we could of brought in a known name aging FA WR that nobody else wanted and one that has already peaked and on a decline to fill the #2 spot.

There is a reaosn why the Bills only pursued Meechem in FA, and why they are choosing to stick with there own. But hey all those years of trying to fix the team with 2nd rate FA's worked so well the last 10 years, I'm sure this was the year it would be different

My word, can we upgrade the #2 WR spot yet?

That's already what I want in the first round of the 2013 draft.

I hope graham and easley step up fast

i dont mind jones but we need a 2a 2b 2c if we have to move the guys around depending on what we are doing

lol at anyone thinking Jones will pan out b/c it's his 3rd year. He's injury-prone, unspectacular, and downright invisible half the time. If Graham or Easley don't step up and take his job then we are supremely ****ed at that position.

Yeah when the pads are put on I think these names will get more time in the spot light.

Hagan's name has been mentioned some...

Fitz may throw for 4000 without having anyone having no.2 numbers since he likes to throw to everyone.

FWIW, My guess is that CIN cuts KR/PR/WR Brandon Tate. Rookie WRs Sanu, Marvin Jones, TE Orson Charles, FA Binns, Hawkins, Shipley (probably PUP), will show him the gate. Didn't have a play from scrimmage, but did a nifty job returning - not a big need for BUF, AFAIK. He caught 24 with a fat average (one 65 yarder, 14 1st downs) in '10 with NE. I'm not recommending him, but if BUF picks him up for a look-see, he's a decent youngster with his head screwed on straight.

as long as we're wasting time talking about this, how about JAMES Jones?

According to the Houston Chronicle's Lance Zierlein, "rumors started circulating around league circles" that the Packers are willing to trade James Jones.

Actually Jones still finished with the third highest number of catches for a Bill's wide receiver last season, despite only playing basically 7 games, and was only surpassed by Stevie and Nelson. So in reality, arguably, Jones produced better than every WR on the roster except for those two.

Yikes... Though the offense was not the issue last year.

I don't know why so many posters exaggerate the negatives on Jones.

He will be a big factor in the offense this year.

Seriously. Jones was the "No. 2" guy last year too and they were doing pretty well until Fitz's injury

http://www.rantsports.com/buffalo-bills/2012/06/16/can-donald-jones-make-the-leap-for-the-buffalo-bills-offense/

“I shouldn’t even be saying this though, but Donald is gonna be the one who is gonna turn some heads,” wide receiver Stevie Johnson (http://www.rantsports.com/buffalo-bills/2012/03/24/thirteen-buffalo-bills-season-ticket-holders-win-autographed-stevie-johnson-jersey/) told WGR 550′s Joe Buscaglia at OTA’s this week. He later continued, “I think he’s gonna have a great season and I think we’ll be alright because he’ll be able to open it up more.”

Jones’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (http://www.rantsports.com/buffalo-bills/2012/05/24/can-ryan-fitzpatrick-make-a-jump-under-new-quarterbacks-coach/) then went on to express similar confidence in his target in Jones.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Donald,” Fitzpatrick told WGR’s Howard Simon. “He had a few setbacks last year in terms of problems with his ankle and a couple different injuries that kept him off the field and slowed him down a little bit.

“Donald’s a guy that’ll probably come out and surprise some people,” Fitzpatrick later concluded. “He’s done it before. If you look at what he did last year in the first New England (http://www.rantsports.com/buffalo-bills/2012/06/16/can-donald-jones-make-the-leap-for-the-buffalo-bills-offense/rantsports.com/new-england-patriots) game, I think we’ll see more games like that out of him this year.”

My issue with Jones is that you can't teach natural hands.
