Why would you say that? He'd be an idiot to lay down any more $ in NYS.

Mansions are overrated. Sure I'd like a nice house like anyone would but if you can't be satisfied with a 2m house you've got issues IMO. I mean you can only sleep in one bed at a time and urinate in one bathroom at a time. How many do you need? By this logic if you can "afford" a $100,000 car but buy a $50000 one you're "cheap". No, how about just not excessively extravagant?

I'm sure he'll renovate it a lot. Personally I think it looks far too stuffy. I mean, where are the TVs??

Well, for a second I forgot $2 million goes a lot farther in WNY than it does where I live.

justa's right- that house would probably be $5 million in Baltimore and $8 million in Northern VA.

It goes a lot less. I deal with a Firestone garage here in SW Ohio. My aged S-10 is due for front tires - nothing fancy; it's a '98 with 63K. I will; replace them 'cause they are 8 years old, even though they have tones of tread. SW OH price per tire is 57 bucks. NYS price for same tire is 89 bucks per Firestone's web site. Folks are running from NYS for good reason; getting a cheap price on a big house is one thing, the cost of living, taxation in NYS is another.

the reason why real estate here in Rochester never got hit with recession is because people from the NYC were buying homes here because they were almost half the price

The reason Rochester never got hit with the real estate recession is that they never had the housing bubble that a lot of people had because real estate prices never recovered from the recession in the late 1970s. While the tech boom was happening everywhere else in the late 90's/early 2000's, Xerox, Kodak and B&L were laying people off and the Rochester economy was very stagnant compared to other places in the country.
