From Associated Press' first-ever AP Pro32 NFL power rankings, a pro football version of the AP Top 25 college football and basketball polls.

NEW YORK (AP) — Comments on the Buffalo Bills by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):

BUFFALO BILLS (19)

Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 12): NFL’s longest active playoff drought (12 seasons and counting) is set to end thanks to defensive upgrades led by free-agent signing of pass-rushing beast Mario Williams and hiring of Dave Wannstedt as coordinator.

Chris Berman (ESPN, 14): Most excitement in Western New York in offseason in years.

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 14): Bills make playoffs if they avoid the injury bug.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 17): Really like team’s offseason moves, but Ryan Fitzpatrick needs to be more consistent.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 17): Great offseason puts Bills in situation to rush passer without blitzing. As long as Fred Jackson is healthy they will be playoff contenders.

Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 19): Big offseason moves, but still must beat New England.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 20): Hope springs eternal after strong offseason led by signing of Mario Williams. Key to Bills’ success is play of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Is he guy who cashed in after strong first half of 2011 or guy who struggled mightily in second half?

Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 21): Could be dominant defensive line with Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, and Marcell Dareus.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 21): Bills now have pass rush in free-agent signees Mario Williams and Mark Anderson.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 23): Addition of Mario Williams keeps hope alive in Western New York.

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 24): Buffalo opened the vault for Mario Williams, but New England still owns AFC East.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 25): Mario Williams can make a lot of players around him more effective, and he will need to in Buffalo.

Pompei is a tool. I have a tree stump in my backyard that knows more about football than him.

Meh, no surprises. Homers (Berman) are giving the Bills too much credit, and Haters (Pompei) not enough.

Berman is right though. There is a lot of excitement flying around this organization. He has cautioned fans to beware of high expectations and failures. He was on WGR550 not long ago discussing that. For a guy who's a homer, he sure doesn't sound like he's entirely sold on this team yet. At least, that's the impression I got from his interview.

Yet he has them rated the highest (14) out of anyone.

Rich Gannon also has them rated at 14, he's no homer, what's his excuse? Alex Marvez has them at 12 and is the only one on that list claiming that the Bills 12 year playoff drought is set to end. That didn't come from Berman.
