Training Camp Day 10 Report (8/6)

Buffalo Bills practice came and went and, to be honest, it’s going to be difficult to talk about anyone else besides Jarius Byrd.

Wow, what a day for him. Two interceptions off Ryan Fitzpatrick in 11-on-11 drills, neither of which were totally Fitzpatrick’s fault. They were just incredible, heads-up plays from Byrd, completely reminiscent of the takeaways he had during his rookie campaign that everyone called “flukey” despite the fact that they kept happening.

Byrd is going to be in the running for pro bowl accolades for the rest of his career.

I wonder what all of Fitzputrid's supporters will say when he sucks it up during the season.

You want to put 2 kickers on the PS?? That's more unlikely than both of them replacing Lindell / Moorman, who both coincidently have declining play. The Bills used to hang onto guys like that & now we're looking to improve at all the positions, so I can't see how they would be spared if it's dead to right obvious that Powell / Potter are better options.

I also have a problem with Lindell's range, anything around 43 yards or more is shaky at best. I seem to remember one FG attempt of 43 yards that didn't workout to well for us, I'd prefer to make arrangements now rather than later for that not to be the case again. That kick will haunt me for the rest of my life, so I'm looking at a position we're currently subpar in compared to the rest of the league. Lindell is a bottom 1/3 kicker at best, can't have that come clutch time, when the game is on the line.

Do I? Not really, but some have suggested (I know Yardrat was one) that we keep Potter on as a KOS and maybe then you can PS Powell?

IMO even if we had Jim Kelly at his prime, he too would be having bad days against our D that seems to be as good as advertised.... so far. The pressure on the qb's have been impressive.

if he stinks it up, we move forward... But please give us a list of QB's whom we should of replaced him with this year.

I hope they hurry up and extend Byrd now before the season. I think he's going to be special and have a great year. His price is only going up.

As for the kickers, it looks like Potter may actually take a roster spot as a specialist and if Powell is looking good there's no reason to not add him to the practice squad. If they don't want to use a roster spot on Potter than I don't see why they can't both be on the practice squad. The league expanded the practice squad roster a couple years ago and the Bills have much better depth than in the past, so it wouldn't really hurt them to use a couple spots on kickers if they really like them.

The pressure of the QB is nowhere near what its like in reality because in camp the QB can't be touched. He still makes his throws. The reply to this if he's struggling to deliver the ball under pressure that never actually gets to him, what is going to happen when we actually go live and he can get hit?

It's a lot more fun to sit back and ***** than to answer that question.
"'Clean up your room.', 'Stand up straight.', 'Pick up your feet.', 'Take it like a man.', 'Be nice to your sister.', 'Don't mix beer and wine, ever.'. Oh yeah, 'Don't drive on the railroad track.'"

Only time will tell but what I'm saying is that every qb whether it's Fitz's, Young or Thigpen has been rushed by players getting in their face which forced them to make bad throws . I just used Kelly as an example because no matter who it is back there would have had the same harassment which would have made them look bad at times. No qb is perfect when constantly harassed by pressure.

True but most QB's should be able to complete passes when they know they aren't going to be hit as well. I think this is an issue that almost a 50/50 split.

We universally agree Fitz has to cut down on the INT's this season and thus far through camp it doesn't appear to be happening. Now if that's a product of our pass rush, that's a two fold issue imo. One the pressure isn't even close to what it will be like in a game, and two the OL having a great year last year could be more of a mirage than some of us feared. Granted our DL is quite possibly the best in the NFL so the second issue doesn't concern me as much right now.

Point is, I am not talking probowl even though Fitz for the most part has been looking better than before . Therefore making assumptions that he'll stink either based on a couple of throws from the report is not .... But Hurkey is entitled to his opinion. He'll be eating crow together with PTI , IMO.
