The guy did sign a new 5 year 31 Mil deal 3 years back and also received a signing bonus of 17.5 Mil. Wow.

Now he wants more, because after his deal both Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson had big years and capitalized on them with new, huge deals... Only outrageous $$ for RB's doesn't make sense. They are hurt more often than most players and these 2 RB's haven't helped their respective teams come remotely close to being a serious contender. That $$ is best spent on QB's, who are far more important in todays pass oriented game.

The new Jags owner Khan is dead right. Jones-Drew isn't going to elevate this team to 10-11 wins. He has collected an insane amount of $$ the last 3 years, when bonus and salary is combined (well over 20 Mil). Now he's holding out ?

Dumb.

Do what Cincinnati did with Carson Palmer. Let him rot until someone offers the house to trade for him. I bet eventually someone will, MJD is too talented to have no suitors.

Imagine if you were the Detroit Lions, why wouldn't you fork up a 1st and 3rd for MJD and instantly get a realistic shot at the SB? Especially if you've NEVER made it to the SB?

MJD's already up to over $900,000 dollars in fines for missing camp and preseason. The Jags owner said in the local paper, "The trains leaving, get on board." He should honor is contract.

Everybody plays hardball. Teams break contracts and cut players all the time. I don't have a problem with him holding out, and don't have a problem with the Jags letting him rot. They're playing chicken and it's a matter who flinches first.

The Jags have all the leverage.

If MJD had one year remaining on his contract rather than two, he might have a point.

But ultimately, runningbacks are being marginalized in the "modern" NFL. The game is so skewed in favor of passing the ball, you really don't need an every down back to carry the load.

Also, it doesn't hurt that the Jags have a fantastic backup in Rashad Jennings.

Wonder what is it with RBs, WRs, and new deals? As it does not make any sense. As they have huge years and in spite in the middle of their contract, they want more?! That ruins the chemistry of their teams!

Jax should just see what they can get for him. They aren't going anywhere, stock up on picks. That being said don't pull a Miami and trade MJD to the Patriots.

Teams break contracts and cut players all the time.

Cutting a player really isn't breaking a contract because the language doesn't guarantee the entire length or dollar amount, especially in this day and age with the increase use of clauses for roster bonuses.
