NFL teams, agents in no hurry to land deals

The Chiefs will open training camp in two weeks, yet only two of the team's eight draft picks are under contract.

If you think that makes the Chiefs the exception in the NFL, guess again.

Only one first-round pick -- Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer -- has signed a contract, and as of Sunday evening, no second round picks had inked deals.

It's the new game played by teams and agents in the NFL; call it the waiting game.

"Most serious negotiations don't even get going until after the Fourth of July," said Kansas City-based agent Tom Condon, who represents a pair of top-10 picks in Jacksonville quarterback Byron Leftwich and Minnesota defensive tackle Kevin Williams.
