    PFT on Tarvaris Jackson deal...

    They're saying we're likely to give up a 5th or 6th.

The trade that will send veteran quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to Buffalo isn't done yet, a source with direct knowledge of the situation tells PFT.

    I don't like it.

If the goal is to get better at QB, this is a lateral move at best.

With the added drawback that we actually have to sacrifice a draft pick.

I'm not a big fan of Vince Young but I'd rather stick with him as our #2 and retain our 5th or 6th round draft pick in 2013.

AND HERE'S AN IDEA... MAYBE WE CAN USE IT ON A QUARTERBACK!

A 5th or 6th to make sure the season isn't over if Fitz goes down is priceless. We're drafting a QB in the 1st Round this coming April anyhow.

After seeing Young this pre-season, we stood ZERO chance of winning if Fitz was hurt...less than zero with Thigpen. An immediate move was needed to get him playing time this Thursday night and get a quick study on the playbook.

What is it with these late draft picks everyone values, as if they're made of gold and worth millions .." MY PRECIOUS ! " ??? That's NOTHING for actual QB insurance and we needed one now. The situation presented itself.

      Really?

You actually think Tarvaris Jackson is a legitimate upgrade over Vince Young?

      How? Why?

And how soon do you expect Jackson to grasp the playbook? He hasn't grasped it anywhere else. I don't see why he'll magically become a Rhodes Scholar in Buffalo out of the blue.

I'm not really sure of the reasoning behind this move unless Buddy and Co. just didn't like what they saw from both Thigpen and VY. This leads me to believe they're going into the season blind at BU QB since both Thigpen and VY should be cut in the near future.

Obviously you do not trade for Jackson if you have any faith in either Thigpen or Young. Chan and Buddy clearly felt Young and Thigpen were awful so tey felt a move was needed. I like Jackson as a back-up QB, though I would not want him as a starter.

I think the QB position will be Chan and Buddy's undoing in Buffalo.

That is NOT the goal at this point of the season. Are you kidding? Are we supposed to pick up a legit probowler?

Young proved without a doubt Saturday he can not handle being our backup. A 5th or 6th is nothing.

This trade is outstanding to me because they're getting a player for a 7th (!) Round pick that turns into a 6th that can get paid up to 3 mill to be a backup and actually do what they wanted Young to do: be a threat with his legs AND his arm.

I see nothing wrong with this move. T Jax, while disliked by many, is a solid, solid backup. He's always gotten a raw deal wherever he's gone, IMO. He's got a career completion pct of 60%, and has thrown more career TDs than INTs. You can't really ask for much more in a backup. He also threw for over 3000 yards last season.

A huge upgrade over the steaming pile of garbage the Bills had at backup QB last year.

First off its a 7th rd pick that can be a 6th if hes active for 6 games. Thats the garbage rds IMO so its worth it

I see it as a lateral move also, but will be very happy if proven wrong.

Jackson was scheduled to make $4 million this season, but that figure was restructured because the Bills deemed it to be too expensive for a backup player.....

and coach Chan Gailey has maintained that there's only room for one backup, because the No. 3 job is going to receiver/Wildcat specialist Brad Smith.

I thought it became a 6th if he started? At least that is what I heard.

Either way it will be hard for a 6th or 7th to make the team next year, but we will have to see how the seahawks draft or who goes around there.

It's a moot point now that VY is gone.

But I fail to see how TJ is any better.

The guy is a textbook disappointment year in year out.

If Fitz goes down, I think we're screwed anyway. Jackson is just another dumpster fire QB to add to the mix.

Also, the good news here is that Peter King is reporting we're only giving up a 7th, which could turn into a 6th if Jackson is active for 6 games this year (probably).

That's an excellent deal for a decent backup QB. Hopefully he never sees the field, but Im perfectly fine giving up a 6th at the most, if he does.
