What happened to him? I remember a few years ago, he's the main guy there for the 'Skins.

I guess he's like everyone of us --- getting old.

Knee injury

He had knee problems the last few years. He reportedly got his knee drained about 15 times last year before finally going on I/R for the season. Most didn't think he would hold up in training camp, so that is a surprise, but he admitted he has lost some speed. He is a receiving option only, as he isn't naturally big and plays at about 235# - 240# now.

Basically, a serious medical red flag who has lost a step. Still can catch, but the thing that made him effective was his quickness and ability to get open, which the knee injury seems to have taken away.

If this guy can stay on the field, it'd be a miracle.

I say bring him as he's better than anyone we have at the position right now and if he gets hurt oh well. Low risk high reward signing him this late into the preseason as guys like Lee Smith and Kevin Brock are hardly guys that expect to develop into anything more than career backups and Scott Chandler is still what I'd call a proven starter.

I doubt any team will sign Cooley until after the first game is played & his salary won't be guaranteed.

Right.... He's got a bad knee and can't block. Sign me up.

" I've HEARD of him ! " doesn't work this time.

Article on NFL.com says he is healthy and looked good in camp. Only reason he was cut was because Fred Davis was the clear starter and Niles Paul has looked good. Wasn't worth keeping Cooley due to salary.

I think he would make a good addition for a TE needy team.
