Whoa, whoa, whoa... Do not get excited. According to Hurkeynuts and OPiV this team blows, and you shouldn't overreact to the Bills driving it down the throat of the Detroit Lions.

Brad Smith fumbled the kickoff. Detroit got it at the 9 or so.

08-30-2012, 06:30 PM
If Smith is going to be fumbling kickoffs, he's absolutely worthless to this team. Who holds a ball like that knowing you're about to get hit by 11 guys coming at you?

08-30-2012, 06:56 PM
Yeah, getting drilled 28-7(as of now)is bad.

Then again, in 2008 Detroit was perfect in the preseason.

And after that they couldn't buy a win in the regular season.

PS games are little more than glorified scrimmages which you have to pay regular season money for. Furthermore, there are only 2 groups of people who give a damn: the families of the players involved, and gamblers. We are neither of them.

I could see Jackson maybe getting 3 offensive series to see what he has in game situation.

Obviously he won't set the world on fire seeing his limited knowledge of the playbook and the fact that might only have about 10 plays that he can actually run at this point. Just hoping he has better decision making and puts passes in the right places ie. not on the ground behind a WR like Pigpen.

Generalissimus Gibby
08-30-2012, 06:58 PM
Chan needs to do something similar to what, according to legend, former Falcons coach Jerry Glanville was supposed to do. Much like Glanville is alleged to have cut a guy at halftime after making him hit a player to prove he could hit something, Chan needs to cut Thigpen at the half and force him to complete a pass before he leaves the locker room to prove he could complete something.

As for Hurkey, consider the source.

He's right- I haven't said the whole team blows. In fact, I predicted 9-7 in the official predictions thread.

What I've said was that preseason matters, in the sense that the problems we see in preseason aren't going to magically go away once the regular season starts. For example, our LB's have been missing tackles all preseason. They're not going to suddenly start tackling once the regular season starts.

I honestly don't care about the score of the preseason games, especially when it's our backups getting lit up. But I do think that there are certain things about the team that can be assessed from preseason, and I'm not liking our WR's or LB's and I'm concerned about Fitz. I definitely like the DL, ST has been on fire, I like Jackson, and I think Cordy Glenn and Gilmore are showing a lot of promise.

(however I'm out of market so I haven't seen any of tonight's game yet).

Note that last week, the first team was out, played solid. Throw Bradham into the mix, the team gives up the 98-yard drive.

Eh, as long as Jackson knew like 5 pass plays he should have been able to manage.

Especially with the pass plays we ended up using and the fact in the situation Detroit is gonna give up 10 yard pass plays over the middle all you'd want.
