All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
I still don't know why they gave him a contract extension coming off of a leg injury at 31 years old. I like Jackson but when you have Spiller who showed promise last year it was just insane not to play a wait-and-see approach for this year. They jumped the gun just like they did with Dick Jauron after a fast start to the season, Fitz the same last year and now Jackson.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
Did he deserve the extension for how he performed in the PAST? Yeah of course he did. Was it a smart business decision to give him money you didn't need to for what his FUTURE production would probably be? No it wasn't. Especially when we already had a 3rd year RB on the roster who showed promise last year and was drafted high in the 1st round and Jackson was a 31 year old RB coming off a season ending leg injury the previous season. There wasn't any reason to hastily jump the gun. He was still under contract this season. They need to wait and see how things play out unlike they did with Jauron, Fitzpatrick, etc, when they jumped the gun and gave them extensions too soon.
In the NFL you're mostly supposed to get paid on what your future production should be and not your past production. The Bills did it out of generosity for how he played in the past and not because it was a wise decision for his future performance.
I like Jackson and glad he received some money for his future but it wasn't a smart decision for a team who runs on limited funds to begin with. If that money hampers us from re-signing a younger player like Levitre, Wood, etc, or bringing in some FA's then it was a horrible decision.
