    Even now, McCrary doesn't know where his knees stand

    ON SOME DAYS, Michael McCrary's knees hurt so badly that he can't stand for more than one or two hours. On some nights, the Ravens' defensive end wakes up from his sleep, heart pounding and sweat pouring down his face.

    "I want to hit somebody. I'm still in the game," said McCrary, a two-time AFC Pro Bowl player. "It's like I'm going through withdrawal. But I know I can still play the game. I know deep down inside, I can perform better than most defensive ends in the NFL."

    Conflict is brewing within McCrary, who turned 33 today. He has had eight knee surgeries in the past five years. A couple of months ago, he was going to retire. Now he might return.
