If you look at NFL history its not that uncommon. The 49ers struck gold twice with Steve Young and Joe Montana, P. Manning & Luck (potentially) Farve & Rogers (They even had Mark Brunel & Matt Haselback on the team at one point),

Other Lesser Examples:
Drew Brees & P. Rivers
Drew Bledsoe & Tom Brady
Bob Griese & Dan Marino (2yrs apart)
Warner & Bulgar & Bradford

* Case in Point: When a Great HOF caliber QB joins a team, he elevates both the players and the coaches. Able, competent coaches also learn from the experience and how to better identify talent at the position and later develop it. In the from the early 1990's until today the Packers have been a QB factory producing two MPVs (Farve & Rogers) & 5 Pro Bowl Qbs ( Farve, Rogers, Majkowski, Brunel, & Haselback). In same time span, in some cases ever, teams like the Bears could not product one! Other teams have produced Zero HOF or Probowl QBs in their entire History! In retrospect what the Packers have done with QBs over the past 20+ years is nothing short of exceptional and its no coincidence, they are simply great at what they do!

Definitely not a coincidence.
And it's not just a trend at quarterback.

Certain teams know how to identify and develop talent (both players and coaches). Others don't.

It's amazing that we have a GM that (supposedly) played a part in drafting Drew Brees and Eli Manning. Yet three years into his tenure...

Warner was originally signed by the Packers but was too raw & was a cut from the greatest QB group a team brought to camp: Favre, Brunell, T. Detmer, & Warner. 2 HOFers, a Pro Bowler & a former Heisman winner and one of the HOFers was cut. Considering they traded a 1st rounder for Favre, used a 1st rounder on Rodgers, providing over 2 decades of having a franchise QB with 2 #1s, had late round picks Brunel (5th), Hasselbeck (6th), Majkowski (10th) and undrafted Warner all become solid NFL starting QBs, someone up in Green Bay knows something about evaluating raw QB talent. Some teams get lucky, Green Bay has more than just dumb luck.

There is so much going on with this post. Let's break it down:
-The 49ers didn't strike gold with Montana and Young, they struck gold with Bill Walsh. The man was easily the best QB coach in NFL history. (Ditto Griese and Marino under Shula). The Colts example is a "struck gold" moment because they, by sheer stupid luck, managed to hold the #1 picks in years where unbelievable all-world QB prospects declared for the draft. Had Luck come out two drafts ago like everyone thought, he'd be a Carolina Panther and you'd be hyping the Colts for drafting RG3.
-Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers shouldn't be held up as an example. The only reason that San Diego wound up with Rivers is because they panicked that Drew Brees wasn't developing fast enough.
-Bulger and Bradford do not belong on any list that includes Marino and Montana.
-Why is Green Bay getting credit for "producing" Hasslebeck and Brunell? They should get credit for turning those guys into higher draft picks than they used, but they didn't make Pro Bowls or look excellent until two years after they left.
-If we're just going by "back-to-back Pro Bowl QBs", why not Palmer and Dalton, McNabb and Vick, or Vick and Ryan? Those are just 3 right off the top of my head.

It's not a coincidence that some teams produce more and better QBs - some franchises focus on it more than others. It's not a coincidence that USC produces a lot of linebackers and LSU produces a lot of defensive backs either. Look at how many of the QBs you mentioned were high-draft picks. Then look at teams like us trying to turn chicken crap into chicken salad over and over and failing. We need to make an aggressive move and grab a real QB prospect.

Who was our GM supposed to get?

You don't get to just sign anyone you want.

So if you're so much more aware of this situation than Buddy Nix, tell us; who should Buddy have drafted or signed? And don't tell me Peyton Manning, that wasn't an option.

I wouldn't give Nix too much, if any credit on either of those picks. Brees slipped to round 2 and Eli Manning was pretty much a no-brainer...

Neither of these picks, IMO, is indicative of a "great GM move." The first (Brees) was mostly luck and the second (E. manning) was a pick any person that watches football likely would have made.

Also, keep in mind that Manning was traded soonafter for Philip Rivers and draft picks that were used to select Shawne Merriman and Nate Kaeding...
