Our run D was excellent first 3 games.

No world beaters faced, but neither are the Pats backs. What exactly changed?

The Jets didn't need to run.

The Chiefs are horrible and got behind so early in the game they were forced to pass. Charles has done good the past couple weeks but we put them in a forced pass mode early on.

Ditto with the Browns to a point.

Plus eventually teams start getting film on you and find out how to attack what you're doing. Kind of like our offense last season when teams caught on to what we were doing after the first month.

Most teams and coaches are able to do this with some success except for the Bills coaches. They don't have any counters to the changes the other teams make.

      Excellent?

Vs. the Jets, we were down so much, so quickly that we could spend the rest of the day keying on the run. Still - they got 118 yards and long 2nd half drives.

Vs. the Chiefs, we gave up 150 yards on 24 carries. A horrendous 6.3 y/c. And that was WITHOUT Charles going off.

Sure, we shut down Cleveland, but it's Cleveland. Not like we needed to concern ourselves with Old Man Weeden and the Dropsies beating us.

When you're giving up 200-300 yards a game 100+ yards seems like a "good" statistic to many people. Hell even I would take that the past couple weeks.

I haven't seen this one yet, but the bottom line is that the Pats may very well be playing the Niners in the Super Bowl in a few months, so that deserves to be said. The fact we were blown out by both is not negated by that fact, but it does justify to some extent why they were able to do whatever they wanted to us. They have and will do the same to many others this year. Let's see if the Cards approach record status against us.

That's just making excuses for our ineptness. Wasn't there a lot of people a few weeks ago saying that the Patriots were finished and probably wouldn't make the playoffs? That was just moronic.

Even if they could be the SB matchup we set records in back-to-back weeks for futility. They have played 8 other combined games this season and that didn't happen. It's not like the 49ers even have a great offense and we made it look like they were playing a college football team.

Them same 49ers, although an exception, was beat by the Vikings and the Lions played them close. The Cardinals beat New England. No other team has gotten their asses handed to them as bad as we have in back-to-back weeks.

Also if you want to take them out of the equation then what happened against the Jets? They put 40+ points on us and has scored around half that many points since then. It's not just the Patriots and 49ers.

In a nutshell when your offense keeps racking up 3 and outs your defense is going to get worn down and start giving up big plays

The Patriots however just flat out exploited a poor and stupid game plan by the Bills with Scott at LB on nearly every play

The Jaguars, Jets and other teams have a horrible offense. There offenses are just pitiful while ours is at least respectable. I don't see them giving up 50 points, 600+ yards a game and setting new records in consecutive weeks.

Have either played 2 of the top 5 teams in the NFL in back to back weeks?

People seem to forget we lost to two teams that were clearly better than us before we even stepped on the field

Right, then the 9er's exploited the fact that when we play a 43, Sheppard and Moats play like the 2nd coming of Keith Ellison and Eddie Robinson. Seems like we're d***** if we do, d***** if we don't for Wannstedt.

That might work under normal circumstances but there isn't any excuse you can use for 97 points, 1,200+ yards and two NFL records in consecutive weeks.

Plus it's not like the 49ers have an explosive offense. We made their offense and Alex Smith look like the best in the history of the NFL. Well actually they were that game since they set a single game record that have never been done in the history of the NFL.

If you want to use that as an excuse go right ahead but when for 6 straight quarters teams have done whatever they have wanted either running or passing that is on the defense. There has been many putrid offenses in the league for years and this lack of performance by a defense has never been seen before. It may never be seen again. You can't just use the offense as the excuse for that.

The defense wasn't tired at the beginning of the game as the 49ers were moving up and down the field at will against us were they? It looked closer because they had a fumble AND a penalty that took sure quick points off the board for them in the 1st half. Maybe the defense was already tired when they walked out on the field? Gailey better not work them so hard in the pre-game warmups next time.

Also what about the Jets in week one and their 40+ point performance where we made them look like the best offense in the NFL from the start of the game? I guess that was because of a tired defense and a lethal offense that the Jets have.

Who is making excuses? Got to read whats written kid and the bottom line is people love to look at the defense and assign all the blame to them but when your offense is inept as ours is and constantly puts your defense in horrible situations with short drives and turnovers that the defense is eventually going to give out.

The defense wasn't tired at the beginning of the game as the 49ers were moving up and down the field at will against us were they? So this is basically you admitting that you didnt watch the game or you didnt understand a thing that you were watching. Tell me what was the score with 50 or so seconds left on the clock before the Bills offense turned the ball over in 49er territory?
