Which DBs will make the final cut?

    Who will be the starters?

    28 Thomas, Kevin CB 6-0 182 24 2 UNLV
    22 Clements, Nate CB 6-0 209 23 3 Ohio State
    37 Sidney, Dainon CB 6-0 197 28 5 Alabama-Birmingham
    26 Winfield, Antoine CB 5-9 180 26 5 Ohio State
    24 Turner, Scott CB 5-10 190 31 8 Illinois
    36 McGee, Terrence CB 5-9 195 22 R Northwestern State
    47 Brooks, Ahmad CB 5-8 178 23 2 Texas
    48 Hilliard, Ken CB 6-2 202 23 R TCU
    30 Floyd, Marcus CB 5-9 188 24 2 Indiana
    29 Bostic, Jason CB 5-9 185 27 3 Georgia Tech
    44 Evans, Jerton S 5-10 197 22 R Virginia
    43 Reese, Izell S 6-2 195 29 6 Alabama-Birmingham
    23 Prioleau, Pierson S 5-11 188 25 5 Virginia Tech
    25 Driver, Tony S 6-1 208 25 3 Notre Dame
    27 Wire, Coy S 6-0 205 24 2 Stanford

I think the CB starters will obviously be Winfield and Clements.
The backups will be Thomas, Sidney, McGee, Turner & Brooks.

IMO the starting safeties will be Wire and Reese.
The backups will be Prioleau & Driver.

I think Turner and Sidney may be able to work at safety as well.

    Starters:

    CB: Winfield
    CB: Clements
    Ss: Wire, Prioleau

    Nickel Back: Thomas

Depth: Reese and Driver will make it simply b/c there isn't anyone else to.

McGee likely will as a 4th rounder. I would guess Bostic as the 5th CB.

Some of those will be kept for STs/returner(s) but not as DBs primarily.

Turner and Sidney are special teamers that add some veteran intangibles.

Right, but neither is a great DB.

Bostic I believe showed enough improvement last year to be kept on. McGee isn't going to get cut as a 4th rounder. Thomas was incredible in limited playing time last year.

CBs - Winfield and Clements obviously start, with Thomas in the nickel, Sidney in the dime and McGee on STs.

Safeties - Wire at SS, Reese at FS, with Prioleau, Driver and Jerton Evans backing up, unless we sign someone.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

              I agree T.

I also don't see Reese starting. Why everyone thinks he's anything other than a career backup is beyond me. I suppose it's b/c TD says so.

              We should play a game:

i dont think that people believe reese is so good, as much as PP is a SS playing FS.. he played great as a SS, but never showed anything last year.. other than getting knocked silly by easy ed.

he never even sniffed a int..

boy.. what happened to the days when shultz would just get those softball lobs that landed in his arms 20 yards deep.

I don't know. Maybe the fact that Reese has started twice as many games as Prioleau at FS is the reason to think he could be the starter? That's not to say he will win the starting job, just that you can't dismiss Reese because you feel like defying every move Donahoe makes.

As for the DB's, I think it's Winfield, Clements, Thomas, and Sidney at CB, Wire, Prioleau, Reese, and Driver at S, and McGee learning CB and S and playing on ST's. Evans might make the PS depending on what he shows, and Bostic is on the PUP list.

What happened to Bostic to be on the PUP list? I can't recall an injury.

McGee will have a good chance from the few articles I read he turned a few heads.
