Once a top high school soccer and tennis player, Ryan Hoag now finds himself preparing for The Oakland Raiders training camp in Napa. Ryan Hoag was the final pick of the 2003 NFL draft. Hoag who is a 6'2" - 200-pound wide receiver is happy to be a part of the Silver and Black. "I have nothing but good things to say about this organization," said Hoag. But Hoag didn't always want to be a football player and he might have never became one if it wasn't for his own mistake, which turned around to be a blessing in disguise.
Ryan Hoag started out his sports career as an avid soccer and tennis player at Minneapolis Washburn High School. His great athletic ability propelled him to become one of the top athletes at his high school. When it came to football, Hoag had only played one year of junior varsity football at the quarterback position. While departing for college, Hoag had aspirations of playing Division I soccer. Hoag set his sights on Wake Forest. As a freshman on an academic scholarship, Hoag had a great first day of practice as a walk-on. The midfielder/forward impressed coaches with his athletic ability, but unfortunately he missed the second day's practice, and there went his soccer career at Wake Forest....
