What do Aaron Williams, Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick have in common?

They were consecutive picks in the second round of the 2011 draft!

Great to see Buddy passing on two available starting caliber QBs.

He's not know around the league as Bumbling Buddy Nix for nothing.

We already know that if we passed on Williams and drafted either Dalton or Kaepernick that Williams would be a shut down corner for another team and either of those QBs would be garbage for us.

Then we would have threads about how statistics show that QBs taken after the 1st round, especially those with red hair and several tattoos, never pan out and Nix is an idiot for passing on a shut down corner when our defense was so bad.

Buddy's drafts have been garbage. He needs to be fired too.

            Round 1, Pick 9 (9) C.J. Spiller RB 5'11" 196 Clemson 8.7 9 Video
Pick Analysis: The Bills ignored obvious needs along the offensive line to add the most electrifying runner in the draft. Spiller gives coach Chan Gailey a multi-purpose weapon to feature in his spread offense to alleviate some of the pressure on the Bills' suspect quarterbacks. While addressing the offensive line remains a priority, it's hard to argue against the addition of a talented playmaker with the ability to score from anywhere on the field.
            Round 2, Pick 9 (41) Torell Troup DT 6'3" 314 Central Florida 5.3 -- Video
Pick Analysis: The Bills select Torell Troup to fill their void at nose tackle. The mammoth interior defender possesses outstanding strength and power, and is the stout force that the Bills need in the middle of their defense. Although some would say that Terrence Cody would've been a good fit, Troup has similar skills and should be a solid player in his first season.
            Round 3, Pick 8 (72) Alex Carrington DE 6'5" 285 Arkansas State 7.3 -- Video
Pick Analysis: The Bills add a valuable piece to their 3-4 here. The long, athletic defender has the requisite size to man the "five technique" on the edge. Though Carrington has been inconsistent, his size and potential makes him worthy of selection at this point.
            Round 4, Pick 9 (107) Marcus Easley WR 6'3" 210 Connecticut 5.2 -- Video
Pick Analysis: The Bills bypass an opportunity to pick up an offensive tackle or quarterback to nab Marcus Easley. The athletic pass catcher from Connecticut flashes big-play ability, and has the potential to develop into a solid third- or fourth-receiver. With the Bills slated to run a spread offense, the addition of Easley gives them another weapon in the passing game.
            Round 5, Pick 9 (140) Ed Wang OT 6'5" 314 Virginia Tech 3.7 -- Video
Pick Analysis: The Bills grab an offensive tackle to address their void at the position with the selection of Ed Wang. Though he remains a bit of a project, Wang gives the Bills an athletic blocker capable of developing into solid left tackle in a few years.
            Round 6, Pick 9 (178) Arthur Moats DE 6'0" 246 James Madison 5.6 -- Video
Pick Analysis: Moats is a conversion linebacker prospect out of James Madison. He is athletic and explosive, but needs to get stronger. He fits the Buffalo Bills' new 3-4 defense well, though.
            Round 6, Pick 23 (192) (From Eagles) Danny Batten DE 6'3" 250 South Dakota St. -- --
Pick Analysis: The Bills' makeover to a 3-4 defense continues with this pick. In the second round they took Torell Troupe, in the third round they took five-technique Alex Carrington, and then with the last two picks they've gone to small-school conversion outside linebackers. Batten from SDSU is an undersized, quick, try-hard edge rusher, whose motor never stops.
            Round 7, Pick 2 (209) (From Lions) Levi Brown QB 6'3" 229 Troy 2.9 -- Video
Pick Analysis: Brown has been undervalued all along. He was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, but only as a throwing QB, not a participant. He had good tape, and he has a chance to be a very solid backup QB.
            Round 7, Pick 9 (216) Kyle Calloway OT 6'6" 323 Iowa 5.4 -- Video
Pick Analysis: The Bills just picked Iowa OT Kyle Calloway. He's a right tackle, who may be able to kick inside. He's well-coached, tough, but not very athletic. He has to beat you with technique, because he has very average feet.
Well 2010 was a nightmare except for Spiller. Let's see what 2011 holds:

            1 3 (3) Dareus, Marcell DT
            2 2 (34) Williams, Aaron DB
            3 4 (68) Sheppard, Kelvin LB
            4 3 (100) Searcy, Da'Norris DB
            4 25 (122) Hairston, Chris OL
            (From Seahawks)
            5 2 (133) White, Johnny RB
            6 4 (169) White, Chris LB
            7 3 (206) Rogers, Justin DB
            7 42 (245) Jasper, Michael DT
And 2011 looks a tad bit better but not by much. For 2012...

1st Round (10th Overall) – Stephon Gilmore (CB, South Carolina)
2nd Round (41st Overall) – Cordy Glenn (OT, Georgia)
3rd Round (72nd Overall) – T.J. Graham (WR, NC State)
4th Round (105th Overall) – Nigel Bradham (LB, Florida State)
            4th Round (124th Overall) – Ron Brooks (CB/S, LSU)
5th Round (144th Overall) – Zebrie Sanders (OT, Florida State)
5th Round (147th Overall) – Tank Carder (LB, TCU)
6th Round (178th Overall) – Mark Asper (OG, Oregon)
7th Round (251st Overall) – John Potter (K, Western Michigan)

Too early to tell but Gillmore and Glenn look solid. To soon to tell with regard to Graham, Bradham, and Brooks.

If he won't fire his hunting buddy Gailey then he needs to be fired.

LOL...only for some other team. A good draft is an exception for this franchise.

'02...the only bright spot for the Bills was Josh Reed. Yeah, baby! Wooohooo! Justin Bannen has had a decent career...elsewhere.
'99...Sammy Morris. Half decent career. Again...elsewhere.
'98...no 1st round pick (used by the Jags to draft Fed Taylor. Sam Cowart...meh. Jonathan Linton...meh. The rest...ugh.
Lehner's history. He just doesn't know it yet.

I've been in the Bay area this past week & Kaepernick is getting rave notices from the guys who count the most-his receivers. This shows it's not just Buddy Nix. The Bills scouts are horrible in QB evaluation both at the pro & college level year after year. How else do you explain acquiring Billy Joe Hobert for a 3rd, Rob Johnson for a 1st & 4th, trading a 1st for an over the hill Bledsoe, trading up for JP Losman in the 1st round, and raving about getting Trent Edwards in the 3rd round when the team had him rated as a 1st round talent. Nix is to blame for not trying to upgrade the QB position & drafting DBs instead of QBs. Nix must think it's a cornerback driven league instead of a quarterback driven league. Either that or the now starting QBs who were available that Buddy passed on were not properly evaluated by the scouts, Nix included. Now we can debate how difficult it is to project QBs to the next level, but the difference is that we are amatures & Buddy & the scouts are supposed to be professionals & better than us-it's only their friggin' job!

I wasn't as high on Dalton. he's been better than i expected. Kaepernick I liked. He was raw but he had the size and arm strength you look for and he's a great athlete. He looks terrific. That one stings especially since Aaron Williams cannot play corner, hope we can get something out of him as a safety. But you look at Fitz as your starter and it's hard to understand how you don't take a shot on a QB every year until the problem is solved. I remembe thinking there was a great shot we go with Kaepernick in rd 2. How good would that pick look now? It would make up for a lot of other misses.

More could be said for Marcell Dareus, AJ Green, Patrick Peterson, Juilo Jones, and Aldon Smith. The Bills sure know how to pick them.
