Big time bust for the Raiders.

At least they hit on Veldheer in the 3rd, good LTs are harder to find.

Edit: To be clear, he hinted at being cut on his facebook page, but deleted it after it blew up. Nothing official yet, but it's probably happening sooner or later.

I would hope the Bills would be very interested in him. I really liked this kid coming out of Alabama /if this is true.

Yeah, would definitely fit in with the Bills.

Can't shed blocks or cover, seems like a perfect fit.

I loved him coming out of college... hard to believe he couldn't put it all together. I'd gladly give him a shot in this lost season though.

Why not ? Bring him in and see.

Do the Raiders have any linebackers left?

So adding him in favor of say Chris White would be a bad move? 'd give him a legit tryout and see what he looks like.

We'd have to sign him outright as I don't see anyone putting a waiver claim on him (being a high draft pick I'm sure his cap number will be pretty high). I lived in Northern California for most of my life and most of my friends who are Raiders fans are happy to see him go.

Overall it just goes to show that the draft is a crap shoot. Aaron Curry, Rolando McClain are just a few of the examples.

Yep. Two of the "safest" pick of their respective drafts.

Good read, written before the 12 season.

So did I. Especially Curry.

Add SS Taylor Mays who hangs out with CIN these days. SF used the #49 pick on the (in some minds) projected 1st rounder in 2010. They cut him after his rookie year. His chief skill is the late hit.

I'd wait until he clears waivers. He's still got a first rounder contract I believe.

It would be relatively cheap for the rest of this year, if he is cut. His salary this year is only $970K, so it would only cost $57,059 per week for the rest of this season.

But... he hasn't actually been waived yet.

He is more expensive for the rest of his contract. His salaries are $4M in 2012 and $5.8M in 2013, with an addtional $250K in workout bonus each year. He isn't worth that, based on how he has played in the NFL, and his actions off-the-field make him pretty radioactive as well.

Yeah, as GingerP noted his contract escalates and I wouldn't want that. Plus I'd want the chance to work him out and see if he meshes. It sounds like his pending waiver was partially an attitude issue.

You have to have him on your team 1st to have a chance to redo the contract. Noone is going to pay him those #'s, his agent would know this

Actually, it is worse than I thought. $1.535M of his $4M salary in 2013 and $2.1M of his $5.8M salary in 2014 are fully guaranteed. If he is waived nobody is going to touch that contract. The Raiders are going to be on the hook for that money if they cut him, unless there is some sort of offset language for a contact he would sign with another team.

Given the guarantees, i doubt the Raiders cut him unless they feel he is such a pain-in-the-rear they are willing to pay him to leave. If he is waived, nobody will pick up that contract. He will clear waivers and try to sign with someone else.

Well then they didn't need him because they have Whitner for that.

I don't see a reason not to put in a claim for him. He wouldn't be the worst LB on our team so he would be an improvement.

He hasn't been cut, he's been suspended for two games for conduct detrimental to the team.

Yep, I was just repeating what Jason Cole (I think it was him) had said on Twitter. He's usually on the money.

Every highlight film shows him looking like Sheppard. Getting tied up inside and missing tackles.

" I've heard of him ! " doesn't cut it. What he did at Alabama doesn't matter anymore.
