This says it's a 2.8 mil cap hit in 2013 if we cut him.

This however says 10.45...

This then says "In 2013, Fitzpatrick has a $3 million roster bonus, which also is guaranteed for injury only, along with a base salary of $4.25 million, $3.2 million of which is guaranteed for injury only."

The signing bonus is spread out across the deal until 2015 so we would be on the hook for at least 6 million there no?

I think the thing to think of here is can a young guy come in and have it be his team or will fitz being here be a disruption. If it will be cut him or trade him no matter what. If it wont be a distraction I think you bring him back for at least one more year.

i got divorced this year. the cost to settle was killer. but that money bought piece of mind. Same policy applies here.

whatever the "hit", it's worth it.

I'd rather have a qb who sucks and has to hand off every single play, than have a guy chan thinks can get the job done.

I don't think there's many GM's that will eat over 10 mill in cap hit to start a rookie. I hope it's a lot less than that.

I think we'd be on the hook for the option bonus too, that gets amortized over the life on the contract as well. So you add 6 and 4 it's around a 10m dead cap hit. Fitz has a cap hit of around 10.5m so the team would actually free up half a million dollars by cutting him. However, finding a replacement QB for half a million is hard to do, so it's probably best to keep him on the roster for one more year, and have Fitz be the backup, a very expensive one. Or we can just ties with him altogether. I'm assuming a QB is added via the draft.

Hurkey, I'm not sure how the option bonus is treated, if the hit is spread out over the life or not.

If the option bonus is not spread out over the life of the contract, then yes, the dead cap hit would be in the 6 to 6.5m range, which would net the Bills about 4m in actual cap savings if they cut ties with Fitz.

Maximum cap hit, 6,200,000 Minimum cap hit 2,000,000. I think he's guaranteed 3,000,000 before a certain date. So they would need to cut him before this date.

Minimum would happen if they cut him after June, but they then would take a 4m+ dead cap hit in 2014. You can spread the hit over two years if you cut the player after June.

Option bonuses are treated as signing bonuses and amortized.......I have all the numbers at home and can answer or confirm the numbers

That's what I figured, so it'd be around a 10m dead cap hit if I'm not mistaken. If he's on the roster it's 10.5m, off 10m.

I think it really all depends on the language of the contract. I would love to know what it says if he is cut.
