We just wanted to be sure we actually had the first down. Even the real refs can't be trusted.

The supposed real reason as explained by Gailey, was that Fitz saw a safety blitz and didn't want to waste a timeout on it, so he did an audible to a qb sneak. I fully believe Chan just didn't know what down it was and thought it was 3rd and 1.

Yeah...save those timeouts for when you need to pull your kicker off the field to send the punter in without just taking a delay.
