I have to admit that I laughed when Caroll trade swapped 2nd's and gave a 3rd rd pick to the chargers for Whitehurst. Then they signed Matt Flynn to a 3 year contract with 10 million guaranteed . Caroll then later gave the starting job to a short 3rd round rookie qb and we see what that team looks like now. Pete Caroll was serious about camp competition.
Bills on the other hand weren't serious on bringing anyone to compete with Fitz with the likes of Levi Brown and a qb like Young who isn't exactly an X and O qb . Even if we draft a qb, Chan will get all conservative and EASE him into the game. CHan got more conservative with Fitz in his 3rd year. I don't blame him to a certain degree but it turned Fitz into Trent Edwards.
